Did any one catch the Safari Hunters program this morning on VS? They were buffalo hunting during the early season, actually the first hunters of the season.

They were following a herd of buffalo when they came across about a 12 hour old baby buffalo in some thick stuff. While they were trying to retreat because of the potential danger of the momma buff, the baby would follow them bellering. After about the second bellow the momma charged, resulting in her being killed.

Has any one ever seen such a young buffalo calf during hunting season? I don't recall ever seeing one on the hunting shows I've watched before. Thought some of the experts could provide a little insight as to a situation like this.

Yeah I saw that episode a few weeks ago...that can't be a good feeling... seeing that calf so close and knowing big momma can't be far behind!

The closing shot wasn't well thought out. As they slowly walk away and leave the carcass of momma in the bush.

They should have done a bit of follow up.
Momma was skinned and eaten. Baby was dropped off at the Whittall’... or made into Weiner Schnitzel.

They left the impression of abandoned baby and wasted meat.

I kinda came away with the same feeling. I know the meat from momma wasn't wasted, and baby was probably safe and bottle fed, but they could have done the closing a bit different!

Email Steve and express your concerns. He's a very open minded Hunter who wouldn't knowingly want this thought left in peoples head. Blunder? Of course, but there will be more to the story, so ask him. He's always been very friendly to fellow Hunters.

"Peace is that brief glorious moment in history when everybody stands around reloading" - Thomas Jefferson

Every morning the Zebra wakes up knowing it must outrun the fastest Lion if it wants to stay alive. Every morning the Lion wakes up knowing it must outrun the slowest Zebra or it will starve. It makes no difference if you are a Zebra or a Lion; when the Sun comes up in Africa, you must wake up running......

"If you're being chased by a Lion, you don't have to be faster than the Lion, you just have to be faster than the person next to you."

I did. Dropped him an email earlier today.

That calf running around fearlessly knowing Mom was backup reminded me of that old movie.
