Rhyme of the Sheep Hunter
May fordings never be too deep, And alders not too thick; May rock slides never be too steep And ridges not too slick.
And may your bullets shoot as swell As Fred Bear's arrow's flew; And may your nose work just as well As Jack O'Connor's too.
May winds be never at your tail When stalking down the steep; May bears be never on your trail When packing out your sheep.
May the hundred pounds upon you Not make you break or trip; And may the plane in which you flew Await you at the strip.

Gentlemen ( and assorted ladies)
It has come to my attention that my post has been greeted by weeping and nashing of teeth. Of course my attempt at good fun has been timed to bring a bit of lightheartedness to the very serious business of the GREAT Lion Age Debate. If you fear for my personal safety, Boddingtons reputation ( how the hell did he get mixed up in this ? ) or the aftershock of this photo being inflicted on the peoples of the earth, I will submit to a higher power ( Saeed) and prostrate myself to the mercies of the mob.
But...let's make it interesting. How about a vote? First camp to 20 Wins!
Just post KEEP IT or DELETE IT. I will bend to the will of the unwashed masses.
Somewhat less shamefully submitted
Dave

Bloody hell, if anyone does not have a sense of humor, he has no business being here.

As to what those deranged idiots at PETA might think.

So far, they have not shown ANY indication that they do have the right equipment to actually THINK!

All the Lion 'scientists' proved to me was -- that probably the laws need to be changed, they can't accurately age a lion anyway until its dead and that people will always belittle someone else's animal if it does not meet what they think is a 'trophy'.
They have also inshured that I (anyway) will never support or donate to the organization they want to form. but hey I'm just an average joe, so I don't count anyway.
His lion was legal under current law so STFU.

Buckeye - You're right, we just wanted to bash the trophy, because it wasn't big enough, to meet our "trophy" standards! Glad you got the point.

Besides you're right, it was legal! Just as Lane pointed out, Human Trafficking is legal is some countries too. Guess you are in support of the rape of 13 yr old girls as well? Why would we ever question anything, just because its legal, got me??

Dave,

It is quite clever, but please delete it. The AR folk love it, but they are not the antis who would use it against hunting and lion hunting in particular. No one on AR controls PETA, HSUS, CNN, or MSNBC

Thanks,

The Tree Huggers are more than capable of making up their own photoshopped pics, they don't need to pilfer Dave's photoshop work. The MSM, PETA, HSUS, etc make up stuff all the time and report it as fact. I cannot see how this joke pic could be harmful in any way.

Guys, that's exactly the problem. PETA and HSUS do NOT have open minds!

We should not send our enemies bullets.

I have exchanged several professional, friendly, respectful PMs with Dave on this. He is a gentlemen and I'd like to share dinner and drinks with him. That's it. I am off this thread.

AR MODERATOR... PLEASE HELP !

OK guys and gals. I have enjoyed, as I think most of you have, this thread . Blanco has reached out to me as a gentleman , as have a couple of others, to ask me to remove the post as they sincerely feel it will be used against us as hunters. Others have said privately that I have somehow tarnished my, Craig's and TRACKS reputation with this horrible post. Others have said a few over touchy lion scientists who have had their feelings hurt. My initial reaction after a good laugh was to suggest that those folks put their big boy pants on and accept a joke for what it is-A JOKE. Anyone that knows me understands I have very little inclination to bend to pressure if I am convinced I am right, but this is not some life or death issue, and I am not emotionally invested in such an insignificant thing as a staged pic. So I am willing, for the sake of the greater good of all mankind, and to soothe sore feelings of offended scientists the world over, to remove the post before PETA or Greenpeace starts putting it on billboards across the country. My problem is I do not know how to delete a post. Saeed, or any AR moderator, can you help me ? If so please remove it as I waive any and all rights to express humor on such a serious subject.
In all seriousness , and to close, very few readers, or posters, on AR have more invested in the continuation of the lion as a species, and as a game animal as I do. I film, hunt, and promote the hunting of this wonderful animal, and when it comes to promoting him and protecting him I have and will continue to do more than my fair share.
With that said, I will step aside and request the deletion of the post. Heres to Simba.

Don't you just love it!

A little peer pressure, a mention of how much that picture can be used against us, and we set back and wonder how we ended up with the President we have.

Folks, at some point in time we have to stop taking the High Road and remember that we are human beings and if we do not have some fun in our lives even if it offends some high minded individuals, we just evolve more into being sheep than men.

Really sad that something done in fun can be turned into some form of moral object lesson.

Why don't we take a vote and have Saeed just satop allowing ANY pictures of any kind to be posted on this site.

Maybe all the folks with onion skin would stop being offended.

Dave, why did you even post it, and then ask peoples opinion if it should be left on the site or deleted only to belly up because of some folks approached you in a Gentlemanly way.

Some folks around this place have a sense of humor and thicker skins and as was mentioned by another poster, PETA and the other Anti groups can come up with stuff worse than that picture on an hourly basis.

Dear Crazy
Not trying to belly up or bend to pressure. Point is that "my package had been delivered" and my subtle point made. We had a few laughs, and I may have stepped on a toe or two. I promise I can stand toe to toe if an issue is important enough, but this one really is not. My straw poll was to prove a point, which was that the overwhelming majority of folks who saw it thought it it was a bit of leg pulling and not some serious social commentary. I believe your votes made my point, with Blanco being the only public voice asking (very nicely by the way) me to pull it down. The other guys, including one who called me" a freakin idiot" did so to another AR member, not to me privately or on the forum. Pretty typical. Guys, I thought the other thread was heading the wrong way at one point so I dumped a bucket of funny on it. Lets not let this one do the same.

Crazyhorse, your comments about people having thin skins or not being "one of us" suggest a lack of understanding about how to win a political battle in the modern world. This isn't about being PC; it's about not shooting ourselves in the foot. The thing that matters here is not whether we'll ever be able to win over the antis; it's making sure the non-hunters don't think we're a bunch of slobs. Even if non-hunters don't take the photo as real, it's very likely some will be bothered that hunters are joking about killing cubs. And it doesn't matter if they're wrong to be offended; what matters is that we can't afford to make unnecessary enemies when we're fighting an uphill battle.

We all know that Dave is an ethical hunter and has respect for the animals he hunts. And Crazyhorse, you may well be as ethical and respectful of animals as Dave, even though you've got a "tits up" reference about dead deer in your signature line. People here aren't likely offended by Dave's joke or by your signature line. But members of this forum aren't the only ones who have a say regarding the future of lion hunting (assuming that we have any say at all). There are many more non-hunters than hunters or anti-hunters, and those people in the middle could well be the ones who determine the fate of the African lion and our sport in general. Average non-hunters who aren't used to death as a part of the cycle of life may be offended by jokes that are made in good fun on this forum. Some non-hunters who didn't have strong opinions on the subject might start leaning against us. And other non-hunters who don't like hunting but aren't outspoken might get louder. National Geographic, a magazine that used to be fairly neutral regarding hunting, is now backing the Jouberts heavily. And the average non-hunting American will take as gospel what National Geographic says about wildlife. Faced with that powerful weapon against us, we need to make sure we aren't doing anything to lose credibility in our conversation with the non-hunting majority. Reasonable people will listen to reasonable arguments from folks like Lane and Aaron, and can be shown that hunters are important stewards of the environment. But it's much harder to convince a non-hunter about how much hunters care about wildlife when that non-hunter sees a picture that jokes about shooting a cub.

Dave, you forgot to count me among the folks who suggested the post was dangerous (albeit funny). Perhaps BaxterB did, too, although maybe he was joking. Whatever the case, your follow-up posts are appreciated.

Dave,

I'd like information on booking in that same area for a lion of that caliber immediately!! I am guessing the cost should be reasonable as the baiting will be done with cat nip and a balls of colored yarn.

It's truly unbelievable to me that anybody with any brain function could possibly take issue with such an obviously faked picture and such an obviously humorous story.

However for those folks who did take issue with it. I've got a one time only deal on Ocean front property with toll bridges included on the Arizona Rivera. Hurry we have a very limited supply!!
