SCI is hosting a free safari to anyone who has served or is serving as an enlisted person in Iraq or Afganistan. To qualify, you need to fill out a one page or less letter explaining why you want to go. For example, "I have always wanted to go on safari in Africa because..." Jim Zumbo (a guy who I greatly admire and who used to work as a forester at the US Military Academy) and Steve Comus of SCI will pick the winner. Send the writeup, along with your name, rank, serial number (what is that? I used SSN when I was in) and personal contact info to: Steve Comus Safari Club International 4800 W. Gates Pass Rd, Tucson, AZ 85475 I am an incredibly busy guy, but if anyone wants help writing theirs, or even printing it and mailing it if you are deployed, please let me know. Good luck and thanks for serving.

Good job there AZ. I've been trying to foster interest in this endeavor but as a current staff puke, we don't have a whole lot of enlisted men attached. Perhaps some of our own that post here on AR we can help? My condoloences BTW, BEAT ARMY! jorge USN (ret) DRSS Verney-Carron 450NE Cogswell & Harrison 375 Fl NE Sabatti Big Five 375 FL Magnum NE DSC Life Member NRA Life Member

Would a veteran of the first Gulf War qualify, or is it for the current conflict? I was in the first one, but won't put in for the drawing; I just want to clarify for those who may be interested. ____________________________________________ "Build a man a fire, and he'll be warm for a day. AZWriter, I sure appreciate you posting this. Here is one soldier that is going to be doing some serious writing over the next couple weeks. But I do have a question: when is the cut off date for entries? Jorge & D99, You two oversized canoe paddlers have it backwards. But that is to be expected from Navy types. It is GO ARMY / BEAT NAVY!!!!!! NOT the other way around!!! Even a blind squirrel finds a nut once in a while. I think the Army team just felt sorry for the Navy guys and let them win. Really, you do have to feel sorry for a guy who is going to be living in the worlds largest soup can 6 months out of the year. It's rather offensive to call 4.5 acres of American soil with a dead presidents name on the side a soup can. There is something special about a carrier, it's hard to understand until you have spent 6 months of your life launching sorties into Afghanistan, Iraq, or Kosovo off one.

D99, There was no disrespect towards any US soil or our previous leaders. Just a little inter-service fun. William Berger True courage is being scared to death but saddling up anyway. - John Wayne The courageous may not live forever, but the timid do not live at all.

I was thinking about this during PT this morning and I had to post this. I think this should go to someone who got wounded in the combat. I am not talking about those idiots with purple hearts that were doing something stupid and ended up with shrapnel in their ass. I have four Navy Achievement Medals and I have been in almost every conflict since 1998, but I think if there is someone who had valor and was wounded in combat it should go to them.

Aircraft carriers are icons of freedom. I can appreciate the humor, but none the less think of it as poking fun at our bald eagles. Nothing says freedom like a floating 4.5 acre nucular powered airport that will beat most speed boats in a race.

He's not from the enlisted ranks. Unless he got busted down for his showing in Africa. ------------------------------------------------------------------- Nothing says freedom like a floating 4.5 acre nuclear powered airport that will beat most speed boats in a race. ------------------------------------------------------------------- I was amazed how fast the Big E left the rest of the flotilla in her wake coming back from RVN in '68. And that was with 1 bent prop shaft that vibrated the hell out of her and us. By calculations from the AN/ASB-12 navigation system in one of our RA5-C Vigilantes---47knots!!! All the conventional powered boats were over the horizon in 6 hours. Oh yeah, GO NAVY!

My Enterprise cruise was in 1998-1999. The old Enterprise salts were claiming Norfolk to Port Saiid in 96 hours two cruises before. Anything with 8 reactors has to be fast. We called it Mobile Chernobyl, it's a dangerous damn thing. Nucular allerts every 2 hours.
