As with the recent event of Stu Taylor, Tim Heralds P.H., in Moz. being shot accidentally. The pilot trying to fly out to rescue Stu was arrested fot trying to fly at night. What could or would Global Rescue do differently to try to get to their member? I would also like to know about your rescue abilities from civil unrest in Africa. What can a member expect & can you back up your claims? I know that you are a well respected company & am not trying to stir the pot, just want to know that if I join, I will indeed get what I'm paying for. Don't want to be in the middle of a bad situation & find out my rescue team ain't coming. LORD, let my bullets go where my crosshairs show. Not all who wander are lost. NEVER TRUST A FART!!! Travel Guard is inexpensive (if you leave out the trip cancellation part). Perks are basically loss of luggage ($200 per day up to $1,000), medical/evac $50k/$1mil. Less than $50 generally. GR is best for evac in dire situations. What is your life worth? MARS is inexpensive If you can afford a International hunt, you can afford insuring yourself or family...plain and simple. I was always amazed when I started booking Rhodesia for DG hunts and guys would take 14-21 day hunts and then come home and look for the cheapest taxidermy they could find. And by all means they would find it! Its great to see such an active forum and thank you to those advocates of Global Rescue. bwana cecil - I can't speak for the specific case that you mentioned and there are certainly situations where a rescue can be extremely challenging. What we can commit to at Global Rescue is to assist our members by whatever means available. We would hope that the expertise of our in-house teams supported by a wide range of in-country assets means we can ensure the best possible outcome for our members. That outcome may or may not result in a plane on the ground in 30 mins, but it is the best possible result given the situation. In terms of our capabilities on the security side, it is worth outlining what our security membership is designed to cover. The primary trigger for us to perform an evacuation would be that the member is deemed to be 'in danger of imminent grievous bodily harm'. There is a wide range of circumstances including civil unrest and unpredicted natural disasters that could result in this being the case. We would also evacuate if your government issued a recommendation to leave a country or the country itself declared you a 'personal non-grata'. Our model on the security side is the same as it is on the medical side; expert in-house staff (ex military, Special Forces etc), supported by a robust network of local assets. We have been involved in many of the recent macro security crises including Lebanon, Egypt, Japan and Haiti, as well as numerous individual incidents. Here are a couple of reports on recent security operations: http://blog.globalrescue.com/m...al-fighting-in-Sudan http://blog.globalrescue.com/m...-in-remote-Indonesia http://blog.globalrescue.com/m...s-clients-from-Tokyo http://blog.globalrescue.com/m...ople-from-Alexandria http://blog.globalrescue.com/m...Cap-Haitien-violence L.David Keith - Please get in touch if you would be interested in finding out more about offering Global Rescue to your clients. We have several different partnership option which may work for you. Regards, Sam

Peter Flack once suffered a spinal injury out in the back of beyond, and if memory serves, his insurance then found that they could not assist. Mr. Flack was not overly happy with that lot.

Well ... I still don't know. Actually, I started this thread because I want to join GR. but I want to make sure I'm getting what I think I'm getting. Several folks with actual experience, whom BTW I really value their opinions, have offered their reasons to join. However, after reading through the Travel Guard policy that I purchased for this upcoming trip to Zim, I cannot for the life of me find a reason to join GR. So far, the only benefit I can see is the Johns Hopkins connection. I haven't been convinced that GR, MARS, or TG uses a different evacuation asset. TG offers the same evac $ coverage with the added $ coverage for treatment. Unless I'm reading it incorrectly, GR does not provide insurance coverage for treatment once evacuated. Only advice from Johns Hopkins. If I'm wrong on this guys, I'm certainly ready and willing to be convinced as I stated, I'm looking for reasons to join.

As I understand it, they pick you up where you are. You do not have to go to an international airport. I also buy international medical insurance. It is dirt cheap.

BTW Larry, your opinion is one of the ones I mentioned as paying attention to. But from what I understand, at least for Zim, the MARS coverage picks you up where you are as well.

I leave Saturday the 11th for 2 weeks in Northern Zim. As on several previous trips I have paid Global Rescue for their services, Never needed them, but, small charge in the total cost of a multi-species DG hunt. I consider it $$ properly and conservatively spent. As in so many choices in life, one should make these decisions on a personal basis, and satisfy themselves,as to value given/received.
