larryshoresThe hog hunt starts Friday. If the wind and weather cooperate, it should be good.
Let us all hope you all have a PIG of a time!

04 June 2019, 16:14
larryshoresThanks Saeed.
I have been sending Mike trail cam pictures. If the wind and weather cooperate, all should be good.
07 June 2019, 06:31
Michael RobinsonThanks, Saeed. And thanks to Larry, as well.
We are flying down to Gainesville in the morning, and driving farther down from there to Larry’s ranch.
The hogs appear to be plentiful, based on Larry’s trail cam shots, but the forecast is for rain.
Wish us luck!

Wilderness is my cathedral, and hunting is my prayer.
IO do hope it dries before your hunt Mike.
I have only ever hunted hogs once.
I was invited by the gentleman who used to run August Francotte.
He lent me his rifle, a 7x64.
We were up in a tree stand, and it has been pouring down with rain non stop.
We say a big sow running in the forest, and she ran across a small river, I shot her in the neck, dropping her in her tracks stone dead.
We went to pick her up, and put her in the back of a tiny covered truck, with us sitting in the front.
The stink was absolutely awful.
Easily the worst I have ever smelled before or after.
Makes being in a truck full of lion or leopard bait seem like Chanel Number 5!

larryshoresThey can smell pretty bad. That is certain. The worst is when someone gut shoots a big boar. That smell is awful.
Hopefully we will manage to bag several. Feed them to the alligators! They don’t mind the smell.

Michael RobinsonFrom first hand experience, a dead pig does stink.
Unless it’s apple smoked bacon frying in a cast iron skillet, in which case it’s the best smell on planet earth.
The worst stink on planet earth, bar none, is a week old dead hippo’s hindquarters, as it’s being hauled around in the back of a Toyota, in swirling winds, to be placed in far away strategic locations, as lion bait.
That smell gags elderly maggots.
Trust me.

People laugh at us for eating camels.
And we tell them "only pigs eat pigs!"

Michael RobinsonNot true, Saeed. Not true at all!

And so I have discovered Michael!
Some of the people I have seen eating pigs were good enough to eat!
And had a rather enticing smell!

Michael RobinsonSaeed, I know there are religious prohibitions involved, and I understand that.
But eating pork is actually good for you.
It is a scientific fact: People who eat pork are far less likely to blow themselves up than people who eat camels.

fulvioIn Tanzania there are eateries called "Kiti Moto" or "Hot Seat" where they serve pork only which is washed down with copious amounts of beer.
The weekends are the best days for business and you will find patrons from all walks of life and religions - I dare not say which is the most predominant but strangely so, the month of Ramadhan is the period when these places undergo maintenance.
Must be coincidence of course.

They had an eventful travel day yesterday. Things did not start well. The weather sucks.
We had a welcoming gift for them. A camo hat with a confederate flag on it. We made them honorary southerners for the weekend.
Thus far this morning, we have each whacked one.

larryshoresWell, we shot 6 today. I hit another that I didn’t follow.
The number would likely have been higher if it had not been for a neighbor that started shooting at an inopportune time.

larryshoresThe hunt is over. To summarize:
1- we had a great time. Mike and his wife are very nice people.
2- we lost the first afternoon due to their travel issues.
3- Saturday was a pretty good day in spite of the weather . We took 6. I hit another on the run which I did not chase. I am fairly certain he is dead.
4- Today was not so good. It absolutely flooded. Thunder was constant. When we left, we had received in excess of 6 inches of rain. More was on the way.
5- All of Mike’s shots were one shot kills as I recall shooting one of my rifles he had never seen before.
6- we never tried to hunt at night. Too tired.
How wonderful.
A sad accident turned into a great show of solidarity in our community.
I got a message from Bossei saying he is recovering well.
Larry was kind enough to organize the auction, and many members participated.
I think Larry deserves our thanks.
Well done my friend.

Michael RobinsonWe had a wonderful time with Larry and his wife. They are fine and generous people and consummate hosts.
Shooting four hogs in one day was truly a blast. If Delta airlines and Mother Nature had been kinder to us, I’m sure we’d have put even more hogs in the bag. They are surely there.
I want to add my thanks to Larry, for generously sponsoring this hunt to benefit Bossie, and also to Saeed, for hosting a platform for the raffle on this amazing website.
It was a privilege and pleasure to participate.

Glad to see Bossie is on the mend!

Michael RobinsonAndrew, we are counting on it.
Our only disappointment on this hunt was that we couldn't seem to get a hog to climb a tree, walk out on a branch, and stand there broadside, chewing bait, while silhouetted in the light of the rising moon.
The corn kept falling off the branch.
We’re hoping our luck changes next month.
