Hey Guys: I found out today that I will be hunting with a fellow in Zim for Leopard....But, he does not have his cities permit yet. What is the fastest way to contact the cities folks and where? Thanks a million! Indoctrinate your Grandchildren to hunt....or someone else will indoctrinate them not to!

He won't need a permit until it's time to ship the leopard trophy back to the States. It isn't necessary to hunt the leopard, just to import it. He should contact USFWS for the permit application. George

Here's the USFWS Page that has the application for a leopard importation permit (3-200-19). The same page also has a link to a fact sheet (the X next to the PDF application link). George is right that you don't need it right away. You might even wait as the permit to import is only good for a year. With the state of things in Zim, it might take that long for your stuff to ship. -Steve -------- www.zonedar.com If you can't be a good example, be a horrible warning DRSS C&H 475 NE --------

It can take up to six weeks or more to get it... If he kills one let him apply as soon as he gets home... Mike

All sound advice as I have applied for two USFWS Cites permits for Cites animals in the past, before I shot them, and had to renew one of them because the permit expired before the trophy was shipped home. Don't rush, you've got plenty of time. Your PH or outfitter, however, should apply as soon as he can in Zimbabwe, and he knows the ropes and what to do. . .

remember that the permit is only good for 1 calendar year, so your trophy has to be shipped in that timeslot or you need another permit

Wintershoek, How have you been? I didn't make it to Salt Lake this year. Did you go? Glad to see you're going back to Zim this year. Who are you going with? Are you filming or hunting? NRA Endowment Life Member

I thought the outfitter would take care of the CITES permit. Sure hope that is the case with Buzz on my elephant?! Mike

There are actually two CITES permits: one to export the trophy from the country; the second to import into the US. The one-year is real. I had a leopard coming in from im that cleared customs the day before the permit expired! Arf! Min took about three weeks for FWS to issue on a routine priority by the way. jim if you're too busy to hunt, you're too busy.

Mike, He will. Just go and have fun! Russell, Believe me, I am going and I will have fun. The anticipation is what is killing me. I have now watched the DVD a sufficient number of times to have started to memorize the dialogue. Mike Mike

This is correct. And, let your permit expire and your most likely looking at another year! My recent CITES permit took 5 1/2 months to arrive. One of my clients messed up and it took two permits and two years to get his entire shipment into the US. Only because of the Leopard permit. It arrived with water damage to the pelt. You must apply for the US CITES permit. Your Outfitter applies for his Zim export permit. I highly recommend you contract a US Importer service. They can help you if you get into a shipping jam. Check out your Outfitters reputation and references. Many a Leopard has never made it into the US. They seem to get lost in the haze of transport. Buffybr: Hello Bro. Sorry we missed you at the Salt Lake show. It was a busy year and we did well booking. Have you made a plan to come back hunting with us again???? I leave June 29th for the Falls. I'll be filming in Zim throughout July and half of August. I may end up back there again and do a "left over permit" for Elephant in September. If I can pick one of those up while I am in the vicinity, I can get by for about 22K instead of 28K+. Hope I can stand to be away from my granddaughter that long. How did that Chobe bushbuck turn out?? Indoctrinate your Grandchildren to hunt....or someone else will indoctrinate them not to!
