Just a word to those who are planning their first safari, or who like me had a brain fart and failed to specify. DO NOT SEND, OR LET BE SENT, ANY TROPHIES TO DENVER CO.

A couple thousand dollars and 2 months later my last Tanzania trophies are finally leaving Co. Denver is not a USFWS approved airport. Hence they have no idea how to clear trophies.

It required a visit from mt taxidermist, the trophies came to the airport in Denver on British Airways, cleared sent onto Salt Lake by BA, suddenly not cleared, sent back to Denver, BA fined by USFW, stored in bonded wharehouse, were picked up, taken to another local taxidermist shop, inspected by USFW, recrated, shipped back to the airport, held to be shipped to my taxidermist. With everyone along the way wanting paid.

Be sure your trophies come into an approved airport.

A call to the shipping company in an attempt to reduce cost ended up with me listening to why it cost so much. I finally told them they forgot a charge. He asked me for what and I told him for the vasiline................................JJ

Apparently they didn't charge you for something they didn't use. thumbdown

All I can say is, "Dude, that totally sucks."

If you are going to carry a big stick, you've got to whack someone with it at least every once in while.

Am I reading this correctly that you intended to clear your own trophies as some on here suggest?

That's why I use Fauna and Flora. Just today I received notice from RSA our trophies were ready to ship. I could pay with c/c or wire transfer. I made a call to F&F and spoke with John Meehan. John deals with the company in RSA and told me to email them and ship collect to F&F. I'll send a check to F&F for everything and won't worry about sending my c/c info INCLUDING photo copies of the front and back of my card and paying a 5% fee for using a credit card. Anytime questions, concerns or problems have arisen, all I had to do is call John and he took care of it. If we had a local port of entry I would clear trophies myself, but we no longer have that option locally, so I defer to F&F. Sorry to hear about the problems and expense JJ but I know everyone appreciates the heads up. Looks like BA is where the problem started. Maybe we should start our own Hunters Association and only use shippers, expediters, Taxidermists/dip-pack facilities that don't try to over charge or rip us off. Word of mouth is our best defense.

Every morning the Zebra wakes up knowing it must outrun the fastest Lion if it wants to stay alive. Every morning the Lion wakes up knowing it must outrun the slowest Zebra or it will starve. It makes no difference if you are a Zebra or a Lion; when the Sun comes up in Africa, you must wake up running......

Oh no, I wasn't trying to clear my own trophies. I just assumed the PH/Outfitter would know not to send the trophies to an airport not approved by USFW.

Its my fault for not telling the PH before I left camp where NOT to send the trophies.

My taxidermist is in UT, the personal on the ground in TZ looked at a map, saw Denver was the closest major airport to the taxidermist and sent them there. BIG mistake..........JJ

Something I learned is before paying for the shipment of your trophies have the taxidermist/airline fax you a copy of the airbill before hand. DO thisbefore you pay them. You may have to be firm but in the end they will.

This allows you to catch any mistakes ahead of time, make sure the name and airport are correct, and give you written proof of where stuff was suppose to go in case it doesn't.

The danger of civilization, of course, is that you will piss away your life on nonsense

Hmmmm, could this possibly be what's behind the PH being arrested in Harrisburg (PA) several weeks ago aledgedly over a leopard imported through Denver???

JJ who had you made arrangement with to clear the trophies? This info should have been provided to the Outfitter. This seems like a shared screw up.

DOJ, I tagged the trophies before I left. But I failed to instruct them to have them sent to San.Fran. CA. I never thought they would have sent them to a non-approved airport. Next time I'll be sure to specify.................JJ
