ivan carterNews from Ivan
people,
for those of you who haven’t heard, last year I made the tough decision to leave Safari Classics Productions ,tough because in the realm of African hunting on film I believe they are one of the very best in the business - it was a decision not bourne of anything other than my need to spend a lot less time away from home, and more time being a father and family man which is what I believe we are called to do -indeed my three year old thinks I live in the airport and every day I wake up at home my 4 year old asks me if I am leaving that day - two poignant signs that something needs too change ! I made the decision with the idea of pursuing some other business ventures which would allow for more time at home .
Subsequently I was approached by The Outdoor Channel and Shockey Productions with a view to hosting a new series based around the conflict between the fast growing human element in Africa and the wildlife - it will be a very different style of show aimed at educating the general public on the true issues facing our wildlife , and some of the things we can do to preserve what we have. The filming format will allow a lot more time at home and so I took up the challenge and I am very excited to say that I will be working with Branlin Shockey and his team to film and produce “Elephant Country” that will be owned 100% by The Outdoor Channel and will air 4th quarter of 2015.
As far as hunting and guiding I will continue to guide and book safaris and to that end have joined hands with one of my mentors, Johan Calitz to form “Calitz & Carter” and we will be guiding and booking through several countries.
I look forward to seeing many of you during the show circuit and very best wishes for 2015.

Gun Control - A theory espoused by some monumentally stupid people; who claim to believe, against all logic and common sense, that a violent predator who ignores the laws prohibiting them from robbing, raping, kidnapping, torturing and killing their fellow human beings will obey a law telling them that they cannot own a gun.

BlankCongrats and best wishes in the new endeavors. I'm sure finding a comfortable mix will be a challenge at first, but know you'll enjoy the change. I've never regretted the hunting that I have missed to celebrate with the wife, children and grand-children.

Black FlyAs a man who spent much of his life on the road, and when home, farming, I now do not have the kind of relationship with my children that might have been. Family and friends are much more important than we sometimes realize. Sounds like a good decision.
Good luck on your new venture.

djsjrCheers from your former adopted state of Michigan. As several have said and I know all to well - you can't get the time back and the most important gift you can give to your kids is your time. All the best and see you at the shows. Be well.
