I see there are a lot of "this and that" stories going on......I have been hunting non stop for a very long time, and it has been also a long time since I have been on AR, but now I have to share this......... Big Grin

What can I say. I'm sitting in OR Tambo airport, waiting for a flight to arrive with my new clients/soon to be friends, on it.....There is not a lot of time, but enough to get the word out to our AR community.

The guys I just dropped off are in high spirit. They shot 40 animals in 7 days, and they were 7 hunters. This is not the main reason of their high spirits though........

Let me just say this. A couple of AR members asked about 60" Kudu bulls. I said from the bottom of my heart that I think they have the best chance of shooting one with us.......I understand that it is the internet, and that people are sceptical (after some of the soaps here, I cannot blame them), but guys, it must be said, you missed out, and you can realy be sorry about it....

Pictures to follow, as I still have the pictures on the camera, and will post them soon enough.....but here it is.......

We shot a 62"(un-offical measurement) Kudu bull yesterday......

Funny thing is, he was not the biggest....

Good pictures to follow soon.......

Sad news from the Infinito family is that Frederik lost his father in law three days ago, after a long sick bed.

This is just a couple of months after his mom passed away. The man is going through a rough patch, and all support will be appreciate.

Cheers for now.....

Yes, thick basis as well, but the "special" here is the akward left horn, that was so long, nearly 4 inches longer than the other.....

Is your hunting area fenced or fair chase..I know of several places that are fenced where one can shoot a 60 inch Kudu, but they are raised in small enclosures...

If you have an open unfenced country, or even a fenced area that is very large, then your sitting on a gold mine if you can produce them with a fair amount of consistency, even one a year is acceptable...

Thanks guys.....

Ray, like 95% of the hunting, as you would know, in Sa takes places behind "high fences", I can say that this Kudu bull was shot on a 3800ha fenced area. You should also know that the ability of these animals to jump these 7 foot fences, makes them "no ones property", as they can move where they want to.

Small enclosure, breeding them????I would like to know more about this practise, and how the owner "breeds" them.....does he have special lights and temperature control?? Any case, you can break it down as much as you like, it is still a very good, once in a lifetime Kudu, and the people that has hunted Kudu with me before, will know what the fair chase was like......

This animal was not even that old at an estimated 8 years, and was never spotted in this area before. He must have jumped in during the rut in May/June.

I have said for a long time that our area have the best Kudu genes in Africa, and last year three bulls over 60"'s were shot by local hunters. Also numbers 1,2, and 10 (last one stands to be corrected)were hunted in this mountain range that stretches from Orighstadt and Burgersfort to Marble-Hall/roblersdal area where we hunt these big bulls.

David, no, it is not the same one.

We hope to post even a bigger one with an AR member hunting with me currently, so wish us good luck!

Cheers

Charl,

Where was the bull shot. I saw a 60" kudu from near the Marken road a few years back.

I like big kudu as well as the next guy. I shot one with 55.5 inches of horn, 12 inch bases and a 48 inch spread. BUT the size of the kudu really isn't the trophy. The trophy is the memory of my Dad and two sons being with me in the wild of Africa. The time spent with them and the experience of Africa tent to be the real trophy. When I look at my kudu on the wall I don't think... That's a darn big kudu... I think man was that fun! Haveing said all this I sure would love to shoot a 60+" kudu- Big Grin

Infinito,
3800 hectors amounts to about 9500 acres if I'm not mistaken and that is a fair chase hunt IMO..so congratulations and you have a great farm...and yes I have seen Kudu go over a 7 ft. fence and also through a 7 ft. fence on two ocassions...

RSA is 99% high fenced, some to keep game in and some to keep poachers out as you well know..I only know of about half a dozen non fenced hunting ranches in RSA and they are all in the Port Elizabeth or Kimberly area and those land holding are huge and 3 strand wire enclosed. It would be rare to shoot a 60 inch Kudu on any of them.

I had a wonderful Kudu property in Zimbabwe just out of Chinoyi some years ago. I have film showing over a 100 Sable bulls in one bunch in a field.

We would see 25 to 75 Kudu bulls in a day. We shot several over 60 inches each year and the largest two were 65 and 67 inches respectively, today there are NONE on that ranch or surrounding ranches, the bush meat market decimated them. This gives credit to the high fenced ranches in RSA, for without them it is possible that Kudu, like many other species, might fail to exist...

Aaron, I cannot agree more. But it is very special if you put the tape on such an animal, and it goes over the magical 60" mark, specialy if you said to the guy whne you saw it:" That is at least 60", shoot it, and shoot it now....please". Wink

Ray, some of those bulls you mentioned would be very high up on the RW records list, and our area will not looks so great....in the books. But I know the Chinoyi area have good genes as well.....

Sorry if I was a bit sarcastic. I just get so fed up with hunters "knocking" this high fenced hunting thing, when we hunt so hard every day of the year, fair chase, to produce top trophies for our clients. We think it is nice to share such a wonderfull trophies with our fellow hunters on the internet, and then people start with their BS.

The person that says there are no fair chase hunting on a fenced area, have not hunted one before, it as simple as that , IMHO.

Any case, we missed the other bull, and the AR hunter took a 28" Nyala with the bow instead. I am not going to name him now, as he wanted to file a report himself in due time.....

Thanks for all the congrats, and we hope to post more "good ones" for you to enjoy.

Cheers for now
