Hey all...I am still a a long time Lurker to the site and just do not post much.

I am looking into my first African adventure and just had a friend call me with a trip he just purchased.
He purchased a trip at a NWTF Banquet and wants me to come along. So I am coming here to get the expert opinion on what I am going to do.

This trip is booked with http://www.atmarulahunt.co.za/index.html

The price my friend is giving me to come with him is $2000. That includes a 10 day hunt and trophy fees for an Impala, Blesbuck and a Warthog. The other trophy fees on his website seem close to what I have seen other places. If I go I will FOR SURE add a Kudu and possibly a Zebra.

I wanted to know if anyone has had any dealings with this outfit and if you all think that this price is a good deal. We would be leaving on June 3rd.

I am also right in the process of looking at an Alaskan fishing trip in August. This trip is also one I have been waiting for. I have decided that I can not do both in one summer and have to choose.

I am torn as the Fishing trip is a REALLY good deal and would be about $3-4000 less money to spend. I do not have to worry about flight costs as I have more Airline miles than I ever use.

Some suggestions or opinions are appreciated.

THANKS!!!

Considering the average daily rate on PG hunting is $400 per day, your getting a 50% discount on daily rates. Throw in $1,150 in trophy fees gives you a savings of $3,150. Being in Limpopo, your PH should assist you in getting through SAPS, so no meet & greet charges (check if their are). To add Kudu @ $1,950-$3,000, and Zebra @ $1,200, you'll have to weigh the merits of each in deciding which trip to take. Having airmiles is a big plus, but you'll need to confirm you can take your flight on the days needed. Many times airmile seats are gone a year in advance. If you need assistance with that question, we have Kathi, Steve and others who can help you here on AR.
Cheers,
David

"Peace is that brief glorious moment in history when everybody stands around reloading" - Thomas Jefferson

Every morning the Zebra wakes up knowing it must outrun the fastest Lion if it wants to stay alive. Every morning the Lion wakes up knowing it must outrun the slowest Zebra or it will starve. It makes no difference if you are a Zebra or a Lion; when the Sun comes up in Africa, you must wake up running......

"If you're being chased by a Lion, you don't have to be faster than the Lion, you just have to be faster than the person next to you."

Not familar with the outfit but the name looks familar, I think he maybe a poster here. Limpopo is a great area for a first hunt.

Good Hunting,

Having fished Alaska several times (Sitka and Kenai) and have hunted the Limpopo area my suggestion would be towards Africa.

You've seen mountains, you've seen snow and everyone speaks english in AK. Africa is a whole different culture with crazy sounds of wild animals coming from every direction. You'll discover that the local guides/trackers are unbelievably good at spotting game and making out different spoors. You'll get to sample foods you didn't know existed.

With that said, you really can't go wrong with either decision as both are fun.
