Cape buffalo, big kudu, sable... all are nice but after seeing a few giraffes I may have to put the money in the budget for one the next time (2010). | ||

I don't know about giraffes, but if you take a look at Craig Boddington's Lord Derby Eland that he's posted pictures of in the taxidermy forum, you might change your mind. His LDE pedestal mount is exceptional! | |||

Pedestal sable mount properly done is hard to beat! I tip my hat to those that can afford such taxidermy. I started out with some shoulder mounts early on but then had to decide between taxidermy or photos/european mounts with more hunts. My checkbook dictated the latter. That said if/when I win the lottery, a proper sable pedestal mount will shortly follow. | |||

I have a Giraffe mount. Pulling the trigger and paying the trophy fee is just a small ante. By the time it was all done I could have gone back to Africa on a hunt. Next time it stays on the ground while I slowly walk away... Want details? | |||

Though many species make great shoulder mounts, my favorite would have to be the Nyala. A quality mount of an Nyala is hard to beat and affordable. JohnHunt Lets see some pics and post some prices. I imagine aside from shooting it the cost to have is shipped and mounted were $4,500 at least???. Buddy shot one, had it shipped back for i think $2k but hasnt had it mounted. | |||

465H&H: I posted about this on another thread but you may be interested to read this. I donated my shoulder mounted buff to a quite good gun club that had a very large "main room". An elephant head was mounted on one wall - and my buff on the other. I'm prejudiced, of course, but my buff was not overshadowed. The Club Secretary told me some months later that visiting school children on "field trips" (the club owned marsh lands and had much small wildlife including birds) were asking many more questions about the buff than about the elephant. (By sheer dumb Irish luck I had found a taxidermist who perfectly caught that vaguely menacing stare of the buff) | |||

Okay, working from memory. $1200 trophy fee $1500 shipping (on top of the fees if there was no giraffe) $250 for skull $2000 tanning the backskin (too big, special racks had to be made) $700 wet tanning the head $3500 taxidermist $600 pedestal $2000 bench from backskin Telling kids that stop by it is Jeffrey.. priceless I will post pics of mount, bench and leftovers later when I get home. wet tanning is when the hide is returned to the taxidermist still wet. He freezes it until ready to apply then it dries in place on the form. I have a 2' by 6' bench from the hide. We saw one bull with a missing horn. You can bet he had a heck of a headache when he lost it.  Sorry for the lousy picture. Cell phone cameras suck. | |||

John that is a terrific giraffe head/neck mount. It is creative and helps me decide what to do with my giraffe now just arrived at the taxidermist. I already have my giraffe and tsessebe back skin rugs I had done in SA. Thank you. The pedestal is great.
