Thank you all.

Hessa has orgenised a pool BBQ for us, with instructions "can we have target shooting please?"

The kids enjoy shooting so much, I get aasked at her school by them "when can I come and shoot?"

On New Year's day we had som,e friends come over for lunch.

And I set up an air pistol target shooting contest for them.

We use a Steyer LP-50 match air pistol, and they love shooting it at 10 meters.

The kids were arounds 10-15 year olds.

As we were getting ready to shoot, a friends 5 year old daughter comes along and asked "how old do you have to be before you can shoot?"

"Would you like to shoot?"
"Yes please"

How can I refuse such a request. I helped her with holding the pistol - and somehow she managed to beat the lot Wink

We had them all shoot in order, and as soon as she finished, she join the line again!?

Her father said she did not stop talking about it later at home.

So I have charged some spare air cylinders ready for the shoot this afternoon.

The BBQ is already set up, the pool is heated, and I think we are all going to be having a great time.

Again, thank you all for your good wishes.

So, January 24th is "Saaed Al Maktoum Day" world wide.
Long live Saeed!
May he enjoy a piece of birthday cake with Hanna and Hessa before Walter eats it all.
Cheers!

No it is not.

Our year is based on the sighting of the moon. So in theory this day might be a couple of weeks earlier, it could actually be another day altogether.

Walter never stops telling me to "behave like your age!"

Oops, not "Saaed" ... How about January is "Saeed Month" to accommodate the nomadic calendar date?
Still Bedouin, eh?

Moon, moon ... Ah, yes, if Walter tries to moon any of the party goers tomorrow, tell Hessa to shoot the moon with her air pistol.
That should keep "crazy Uncle Walter" in line.
Every family has one.

Happy Birth Moon!
And many more moons to you, Sir!tu2

I received a gift from Saeed on HIS birthday! All his African hunt videos from 2012! What a pleasurable relief from all those "shoot em up, slap on the back, That's what its all about" videos one sees on TV or commercial hunting videos. These are true representations of a safari with all the small nuances that make an Africa adenture what it is. The insects, the birds, the water cascades, etc. (I thought I could smell the insect bomb when they were spraying it around the camp fire) When I was outfitting I always said, "Give me a non hunter for a two week hunting trip to really see what and why we do what we do and I will change their mind". These are the kind of videos that will have that effect on the uninitiated.
Happy Birthday, Saeed and thanks so much for MY present.

Saeed, very few people have even one true friend, and it seems you are blessed with hundreds of friends world wide! That is something special, and you are a person that I find to be very generous with your friendship to others. No matter where they are from, people like you are rare in the world today, and I’m proud to call you my friend!

Happy Birthday Saeed and hopeful many more Birthdays and hunts in your future!

An Egyptian friend tells me that "saeed" is an Arabic word meaning "happy."
He also told me his own family name means "intelligent," and he has the same first name as his last name,
so he is Dr. Intelligent Intelligent. Big Grin

Therefore, a "Saeed Birthday" is a "Happy Birthday" by definition.

Hope it was a very happy Happy Birthmoon, for Saeed "Happy" Al Maktoum. tu2

Did Walter behave himself?

Absolutely right Jim.

A pool BBQ for kids - I have the honour of being accepted as a kid by all the kids here clap.

There is nothing like it.

Hessa and me orgenized the targets, people stqarting coming at midday, we had our lunch at 2 and then we had the shooting.

There was a lot of competitive spirits between the men, women and kids.

But, our team, the kids, won.

Apparently now we have to have another BBQ for the other teams to take their revenge rotflmo

Thank you all for good wishes, I just wish you could have joined us.

We have an open house policy for any AR member who visits Dubai.

You are always welcome.

May God bless you and yours my friend. My but we are all getting a little long in the tooth these days. It still beats the alternatives however.
Happy Birthday.

BTW another reason to be thankful along with the many you already have is it is about 9F here today. But I digress, watching the pure enthusiasm on all those young faces being taught to shoot and having fun is one of the greatest blessings a man can have. I guarantee everyone of them will remember those days for the rest of their lives. You are leaving quite a legacy my friend. What better use of a mans life?
