I've learned Africa.

Charles Helm first directed me there and I'm eternally grateful that he did. Without his assurance and guidance I may never have gone.
To Sir Charles - Thank You.

I've learned about a lot of animals. Africa is the epitome of animal lore.

I've learned about different rifles and their cartridges.

I've learned that there are men who continuously experiment with them and b/c of their efforts we hunters become better and benefit.

I've booked hunts on this site. I've learned that there are good and bad outfitters (Blair Worldwide). I believe that Aaron Nielson and Mark Young are both stand up guys. As well as many others who post on here.

I have found that Kathi at kathi@wildtravel.net has been excellent in both customer service and aiding her travellers. Her husband Rich, has taken about every game you'd see in a book when it comes to tough to get or rare.

There are some guys I just don't like - Safari Lawyer, JDollar, Fairgame, JBrown and many others. They seem to be able to go more often than us peasants can afford. I mean do they really have to relate every story of each epic encounter they have? Smiler
Guys, I'm kidding. Love reading your stuff and learn more with every post you guys put up.

I've also learned I don't want any rifle that starts with a 4 or 5. I want to hunt. I don't want to get recoiled back into the next country.

Ya'll have helped me with different airlines.

And you've helped me with what to expect in various countries.

I want to say thank you for your pm's and assistance when I've asked. That is probably the biggest thing that I've gained.

My first African hunt was bought off of EBay. Really.

Your help made me feel a lot more secure about going.

Thanks to each and every one of you.

Happy Thanksgiving and be sure to hug and hold each of your family.

Sadly, you've gotten a lot more hunting in than I have. If I could just get you to post some pictures!

Heavier calibers have their place, and if I can shoot a .458 (at least occasionally) I imagine anyone can.

A very nice sentiment going into our Thanksgiving holiday here in the states.

I think many of us are equally grateful for the friends and acquaintances we have developed on AR, along with the continuing education and entertainment it provides us. AR is really a remarkable site - and tool - that has become a welcome part of many of our lives.

Of course, we owe it all to our generous host, Saeed, without whom none of this would be possible. Thank you, Saeed.

Happy Thanksgiving to all of you as well.

But I've learned that I don't want a gun that starts with LESS than a 4 or 5! Cool

Ahh, Charles. You really have no idea on how much faith I put in our conversations and your assurances to go. A 24 hour flight and meeting someone I didn't know in a foreign country for the first time took all of your assurances.

Honestly, I think of you on each flight.

Not being weird, but your words of assurance made it easier.

If I were to ever write a book it would include in the forward your name.

"Thank you" is all I have.

That little opening, crack if you will, has opened a whole new world for me.

I leave in a couple of days for a hunt in Canada. And in Feb. I'm off to Brazil for some Peacock Bass Fishing.

My wish is that one day we could share a campfire together in some far off exotic country with the fires tall and the food and drink outstanding and talk into the night about our families and kids and laugh and share hunting experiences.

Legistine actu quod scripsi?

Never under estimate the internet community's ability to reply to your post with their personal rant about their tangentially related, single occurrence issue.

What I have learned on AR, since 2001:
1. The proper answer to: Where is the best place in town to get a steak dinner? is…You should go to Mel's Diner and get the fried chicken.
2. Big game animals can tell the difference between .015 of an inch in diameter, 15 grains of bullet weight, and 150 fps.
3. There is a difference in the performance of two identical projectiles launched at the same velocity if they came from different cartridges.
4. While a double rifle is the perfect DGR, every 375HH bolt gun needs to be modified to carry at least 5 down.
5. While a floor plate and detachable box magazine both use a mechanical latch, only the floor plate latch is reliable. Disregard the fact that every modern military rifle uses a detachable box magazine.
6. The Remington 700 is unreliable regardless of the fact it is the basis of the USMC M40 sniper rifle for 40+ years with no changes to the receiver or extractor and is the choice of more military and law enforcement sniper units than any other rifle.
7. PF actions are not suitable for a DGR and it is irrelevant that the M1, M14, M16, & AK47 which were designed for hunting men that can shoot back are all PF actions.
8. 95 deg F in Africa is different than 95 deg F in TX or CA and that is why you must worry about ammunition temperature in Africa (even though most safaris take place in winter) but not in TX or in CA.
9. The size of a ding in a gun's finish doesn't matter, what matters is whether it’s a safe ding or not.
10. 1 in a row is a trend, 2 in a row is statistically significant, and 3 in a row is an irrefutable fact.
11. Never buy a WSM or RCM cartridge for a safari rifle or your go to rifle in the USA because if they lose your ammo you can't find replacement ammo but don't worry 280 Rem, 338-06, 35 Whelen, and all Weatherby cartridges abound in Africa and back country stores.
12. A well hit animal can run 75 yds. in the open and suddenly drop with no initial blood trail, but the one I shot from 200 yds. away that ran 10 yds. and disappeared into a thicket and was not found was lost because the bullet penciled thru. I am 100% certain of this even though I have no physical evidence.
13. A 300 Win Mag is a 500 yard elk cartridge but a 308 Win is not a 300 yard elk cartridge even though the same bullet is travelling at the same velocity at those respective distances.

This is definitely a great website and resource for anybody looking to book a hunt in Africa and anywhere else in the world. I have not found another website like it

Yes this site really got my passion for Africa going - but then I grew up with a passion for the Indian jungles.

AR taught me that the very rich and the common man can love and enjoy Africa. So I still hope and dream .... of 2013.

I have made some good friends on AR and was invited to shoot double rifles! I got to shoot quite a few of them including Webley 450/400, Griefelt 500NE & 600 Jeffery.

I hope to hunt Afica with this friend ....

Thanks for the great community here on AR & God Bless you and your families over Thanks Giving.
