I am a disable sportsman and it is very hard to
find an outfitter that will take me on, even when I explain that i am mobile .
When I talked to Chris at CTSafaris he said that
it would be no problem for me to hunt planes game.
Using the Hunter Support Group I was met at the air
port \had my rifle past customs and met Chris And
his Wife Sabina and was on my way.
Saying I was treated like a king would just about
sum it up, from the great food to taking 7 heads of
game , i would send my friends there with
knowing they would be treated the same way.

I have no doubt that Chris treated you very well and was more than happy to take your booking. What surprises me is that other operators where reluctant to take you. Even with wheelchair bound clients there is always "diesel stalking", shooting over water holes and over baits. I dare say that there are many operators that would see your disability as a challenge rather than a problem and be very happy to organize a hunt for many species including DG for you. We work with an outfit that took their client to the leopard blind in a wheelbarrow where he shot his big tom quite easily.

Don't be discourage about future hunts in Africa as there are many outfits out there that will be happy to have you as a client.

I'm also very surprised that any HO can hessitate to take a hanidcapped hunter as a client. I certainly see just additional challenge!

Congratulations, can't wait to see the photos,

My husband is legally blind and has been on many safaris and has even taken 2 Cape Buffalo. The outfitters and PH's (with one exception) have always risen to the occasion for him. In fact, many have told me they enjoy the challenge of getting a disabled hunter on game even more than an abled-body, (read: average) hunter.

It's attitude that counts!!! Again congratulations.

Cracking animals and that water buck is a beauty.

Would like to think Chris and Sabin for posting the
pictures they knew I would have a hard time of it, that is one thing I found out you meet as a client
and leave as friends.
The rifle is a CZ550 SAFARI MAG. that my gunsmith
installed a Gentry muzzle brake, shortened the stock and installed a Limb saver recoil pad, had to reduce the recoil because of neck and
spine problems.
I used a 285gr load from a company called Biter
Root Wildneress co. Load performed well but the
bullet did break up on the bigger stuff, would use a Nosler or Barnes when i return and it goes
without saying that when in the field Chris will
be by my side.

Uncle Joe is a man of few words and I should share something with AR folk about this true gentleman and sportsman...

In spite of asbestos in his lungs (result of serving his country as Navy soldier – amongst others in Vietnam) and a bad back injury, he kept up with me every step of the way... He is a man of no complaints – even when the going gets tough. He is always ready with a smile, is quick-witted, good humoured and an absolute pleasure to be with.

When I took his cup of coffee to him the first morning to wake him, he was already awake… the next morning he got up even earlier to “save” me the inconvenience of having to bring him his coffee in spite of my reassurance that this was no trouble at all.

Whilst some of his animals were taken from a blind, he also stalked many with me and made the perfect shot. His bag included Kudu, Duiker, Gemsbok, Zebra, Impala, Waterbuck and Warthog – all one shot kills.

I look forward to my next hunt with Joe (Buff is on the cards)

This is one of those occasions when the English language falls a little short, but , well done all round.

Well Uncle Joe, you have done well and my sincere congratulations in taking these lovely trophies.

May I say that it gives me some reassurance as I will be hunting with Chris & Sabrina from early August and I too asked similar questions based on my health but this post proves a lot to another 'Older' hunter.

I just got a message on Skype from Chris to look up this entry and I hope that I am as successful when I get there.

This all started back in January when I began researching Outfitters for an African safari in 2011

Having read as many books about African hunting as what I could lay my hands on since I was a teenager, I always dreamt about hunting in Africa one day but as is the case with most things in life – this was always kept on the back burner. My dream was to hunt Cape Buffalo but I was concerned that I would not be physically up to such a hunt due to my health and fitness levels.

Well, in January this year I looked up and contacted a few Outfitters. I saw that CT Safaris offered hunting from horseback and given my physical condition (asbestos on the lungs and a bad back) thought this might be a solution for me to fulfil my dream of hunting buff. Chris called me back after receiving my first email and after a few minutes on the phone with him I’d made up my mind that he was the guy I wanted to go with. I raised a few concerns with Chris regarding my ability to hunt dangerous game and whilst he set my mind at ease, I opted to start out with a plains game hunt instead. I’ve always relied on my gut to make important decisions in my life and this time would be no different. After hanging up the phone I walked up to my wife and told her: “Honey I’m going to Africa with Chris”. A few days later, after she’d done some homework on his operation, she reported back: “You’re all set to go – you’ll be in good hands…”

My next objective was to find a suitable rifle to take with me to Africa. Whilst I own several rifles and muzzle loaders, a special hunt such as this required a special rifle and after getting the go ahead from the lady of the house I settled on a CZ 550 Safari in .375H&H. My gunsmith installed a muzzle brake, shortened the stock and installed a limb saver recoil pad and we were ready to go.

I was impressed with Chris’ ability to swiftly and comprehensively answer all the many questions that arose during the time leading up to my departure on this hunt of a lifetime. He sure managed to set my mind at ease each time I had doubts with regards to my decision to book this trip.

Following the advice of Chris I used Hunters Support to take care of my gun import permit for me and what a good decision this was! Arriving at Johannesburg airport after some 20 hours plus in transit, it was a relief to see someone standing outside the plane carrying a sign with my name on it. I was whisked through immigration and customs – directly to the firearms office where Chris and his wife Sabina were waiting for me. I felt at home right away!

We spent the night at African Tribes Guesthouse near the airport and the following morning we were on our way to Chris and Sabina’s home - Sabrisa Ranch in Limpopo Province.

My accommodations for the next 10 days would comprise of beautiful private thatched chalet – more comfortable and luxurious than what I’d ever expected in Africa.

After checking my rifle that afternoon we immediately started hunting for kudu on the 10,000 acre unfenced property adjacent to Sabrisa and although we saw some Kudu bulls we couldn’t get a shot at any of them as they were all high up in the mountains. Chris explained that the kudu bulls were spending most of the day in the mountains and only came down from there in the late afternoons to drink water down at the river before heading up the mountains again early morning.

We saw several kudu bulls the following day – again without having a shot at one and that evening Chris asked me to shoot a warthog for him to use as bait for an upcoming leopard hunt. The .375 and the man behind it did their work and my CZ had drawn its first African blood. Around the campfire that night Chris told me: “Joe – tomorrow is the day we’re gonna find you your kudu bull” and as it turned out he was right.

The following morning we headed out the same way we did before. Up to now all the bulls we’d been seeing were way up in the mountains and that’s where my attention was focused so when Chris suddenly stopped and pointed out a kudu bull standing under a tree – less than 60 yards from us I was almost surprised. The bull dropped at the shot and my second African animal was down. Now let me say that I am no trophy hunter. In fact; I only brought pictures back home with me so I had no expectations with regards to trophy size and made this clear to Chris at the start of the safari. Chris realized that – given my physical condition – it would be impossible for me to climb the high mountains in search of a 60” kudu bull and as such we settled on this one. I was as happy as can be and looking at Chris’ face I could see that he was quite happy too…

The following day I took a big old Warthog from about 100 yards. He dropped to the shot and I was a happy man.

Next day I got an Impala in the afternoon – also with a one-shot kill. One of the highlights later that same day was my Gemsbok which we saw grazing about 300 yards from us. We carefully stalked the old cow and Chris got me up to about 60 yards from her before putting up the sticks and telling me to take her. She was partially obscured by a tree and Chris told me to wait for her to step out. The moment she showed herself I squeezed the trigger and she dropped in her tracks.

That night back at Sabrisa we had another wonderful evening around the campfire eating some of the delicious food that Sabina had prepared. I thoroughly enjoyed Chris and Sabina’s company. They treated me as a friend – not a client – which was something I appreciated.

Sabina had told me about a place that offers elephant back safaris and thinking I could do with a rest I opted not to hunt the next day so Chris took me elephant back riding. Another thrilling experience!

The following day we headed out to another of Chris’ concessions near the Limpopo river where we were to spend two days in search of Zebra, Hartebeest and whatever else the Hunting Gods had in mind for us. We hunted that afternoon and saw two big Kudu bulls but as I’d already gotten mine I decided to leave them for another client.

We spent the next morning in a blind – which turned out to be a good idea as this is where I got my Grey Duiker from.

That afternoon we continued our search for Hartebeest and Zebra. Things were kind of quiet for a while but the next moment it was as if the Serengeti had opened in front of us. Eland, Red Hartebeest and Zebra all appeared out of the blue and was running in different directions. One unlucky Zebra decided to stop and look at us and the CZ boomed. Another great day!

Following day we returned to the ranch we’d hunted before and after spot and stalking for most of the day we returned to a blind to see if a Waterbuck or giant Warthog we’d seen around earlier wouldn’t show themselves again. Suddenly a big Waterbuck bull came charging into the water – hot on the heels of a bunch of females. By the time the bull had come to a stop I was ready for him and squeezed the trigger. This bull also dropped straight away and that was the end of him and my hunt.

To say that I was surprised by the hospitality I experienced from Chris and Sabina would be an understatement. This being my first trip over – I had no idea what to expect – but nothing could have prepared me for the kindness, helpfulness and hospitality given to me by these two individuals. The food was absolutely fantastic. Accommodations more than comfortable and Chris tailored the hunting part of things in line with my limitations and abilities – producing excellent trophies in the process. Whilst I will not be bringing any of the trophies back home (lack of space and a non-hunting wife), I know that they have found a good home in that of Chris and Sabina’s on Sabrisa. I can’t wait to get pictures back from Chris to show what they look like in his house and I can’t wait to return to Africa… like they say – it gets into your soul!

Sounds like you had a great time. Chris was wishing you farewell as I was landing in OR Tambo. Chris recanted many fond memories of your hunt over the next 10 days. I was fortunate enough to take my Warthog out of the same blind you killed your Waterbuck from.

On another note, the big Bushbuck that eluded you guys and some previous hunters eluded us as well, until the morning that I was supposed to leave that is. With the hunt officialy over we decided to try one last kick at the cat and that morning his luck ran out. He measures just shy of 16".

I got to see your trophies. They are quite impressive, especially for someone hunting with no trophy agenda! They will look great decorating Chris' boma.

Good luck when you return for dangerous game. I am sure Chris treat you well and Sabina will keep your belly full of her fabulous 5 star meals!
