Gentlemen,

We generally do not allow the forums to be used to ask for money, but in this case I am going to allow it.

We are glad that Punki is already on the road to recovery, and wish him all the best, and a return to what he loves best, hunting.

Saeed

================

Ladies & Gentlemen:

I posted in the original thread regarding this incident and offered to be the point man on an effort to give some aid to Punki. I have contacted Corne of Omujeve Safaris and asked him to make an assessment as to what we here at AR can do for Punki and his family. Hopefully we will have some ideas and direction soon.

I will be in Namibia in June, hunting with Johann Veldsman of Shona Hunting Adventures. I'll be happy to deliver any items Corne thinks Punki and his family may use. Corne has mentioned a trust fund, but we may also consider clothing, health aides that can't be obtained in Namibia, or other items for his family.

Please consider participating in this effort. Those of us who hunt Africa know what risks our trackers take everyday. They deserve our respect, and when necessary, our help.

I'll keep you all posted on my correspondence with Corne.

Best......Tom Lorenzen / Durango, Colorado.

There was another thread recently about a trust fund for a Zimbo PH son injured in a car crash, it was ( I guess removed by the AR authorities)

Maybe there should/could be a ( brand new category created) for isolated cases of dire need and/or donations etc.!!

Just a thought !!

Cheers, Peter

You are a gentleman of note. Thank's for the great idea and your followup with Corne. Corne and Nic are good men to the core and I know Punki will have their full support during this ordeal and a job waiting on him when he get's well.
I am sure Corne will put a plan together, but I wanted to say THANK YOU for your concern and kindness.
All the best
Dave

Just got off the phone with Craig, who is now home. Brittany is gearing up to put a post together on how interested folks can help with Punki's medical bills.

Thanks to all

I think I speak for many AR members when I say that the stupid and insensitive few who seem to need so much attention do not and will never represent this forum or its standards of behavior.

That is true no matter how many asinine posts they make or threads they start, or how much they abuse the tolerance and patience of their fellow members and the generous owner of this site.

The overwhelming majority of AR members are here to share their knowledge, learn from others and provide such help and assistance as they can to fellow shooters and hunters.

I will gladly kick some chips into the pot for this cause.

Guys, really appreciate all the kind words and support. Punki is doing much better than initially expected, and will recover, probably fully, though a bit early to predict that. The medical bills are going to be astronomical--and worth every penny. The Roman Catholic Hospital in Windhoek did a wonderful job. I don't want to pre-empt any efforts, but Brittany has been busy today securing a proper business license, PO Box, "DBA" bank account, and so forth. She will probably post this herself, but before the train gets too far down the track: The fund she has established is the "Punki Recovery Fund."

We will all be grateful for any and all contributions, and again, I can't express how gratified we are by your (general) understanding of this unfortunate incident.
Regards, Craig Boddington

Rhyme of the Sheep Hunter
May fordings never be too deep, And alders not too thick; May rock slides never be too steep And ridges not too slick.
And may your bullets shoot as swell As Fred Bear's arrow's flew; And may your nose work just as well As Jack O'Connor's too.
May winds be never at your tail When stalking down the steep; May bears be never on your trail When packing out your sheep.
May the hundred pounds upon you Not make you break or trip; And may the plane in which you flew Await you at the strip.

That would work, but keep in mind that Pay Pal is basically anti-gun. They won't accept payments to Gunbroker.com or any of the other stateside gun auction websites.

I'm in for a few bucks. Craig's book Buffalo enabled me to get my buff with a single shot.

It looks like Brittany has a handle on the issue so I'll defer to her on any collection of funds.

I'll stay in touch with Corne and determine if there are any hard goods such as clothing Punki may need.

Best to all.........Tom

It is so very refreshing to see this level of integrity and compassion being exhibited by Ms. Boddington. Brittany is reaching out to share her depth of Ethics publicly for the benefit of a professional safariman who was injured in the course of his profession and who "May" not have expected anything more that to be cared for as best possible under the circumstances. For her to extend herself as she is doing proves that there is true quality in her lifestyle, upbringing and personal belief in what she is doing.
We all hope Punki makes a rapid recovering and is able to quickly return to the life he obviously loves. I personally am proud to be able to participate in helping out with my financial support but I really have to say thank you for the opportunity to do so.

I've been in that Hospital. Eeker If it wasn't for some wonderful painkillers I would have died of fright at the conditions.

my wife has informed me that if I am crude enough to ignore this need, she will, and issue proper punishment. "She who must be obeyed" is 100% dead on with that assessment, and need not be concerned. Anyone who can ignore this has no heart, just a blood pump where a heart should be!!

God's Blessing on Punki and the Boddingtons.

Many thanks to all, Brittany and I are more grateful than I can possibly say. Two significant updates:

1. Spoke to our young outfitter friend, Corne Kruger of Omujeve. He saw Punki in the hospital today. Punki said: "Get me out of here. I'm bored, I can't take this any more." He will probably be released from the hospital later this week. Will need some rehab--there is nerve damage affecting movement/feeling in his foot. But at this time doctors predict 90% of full recovery. Nine days ago they predicted very small chance of survival, so this is astronomical improvement by a very tough guy.

2. Combining overall trauma of Brittany's hunt (most aggressive leopard encountered to date) with injuries to dogs and mental and physical injuries to dog handlers, we were all very concerned about the NEXT leopard hunt, especially considering who Omujeve's next client was to be. This hunt has now been conducted. Mike Fifer, CEO of Ruger, came in after Brittany to hunt with Omujeve as our (Craig, Dave, Tim of TRACKS ACROSS AFRICA tv) guest (read: paid guest, please!!!) as part of our sponsorship contract with Ruger. Same pack (mostly recovered), similar country, same dog handlers absent Punki. A big leopard we tried to get last year jumped off the bait when they checked it. Dogs were released at dawn this morning. The cat bayed in little more than a mile, and Mike took him cleanly. Honest, guys, this is the way many of these hunts go--but every leopard is different. Unfortunately, I fear that Brittany inherited more than her share of the Boddington Leopard Luck (BAD!) that plagued me for years.
Regards to all, and again, many thanks, Craig

Craig, I wonder if Brittany would now trade her leopard luck for your leopard dry spell? In any event I received an email detailing the incident and have to say, at the end of the day it's a good thing she was there. I'd rather be convalescing in the hospital from bites and a GSW than be chewed to death. Now she's really stepping up to keep helping out. You obviously did a good job raising her.
