once again the Montreal Moron rears it's stupid head. shitaway, if you are dumb enough to believe that there are wildlife artists living in isolated African villages and producing quality work in ANY medium, you are beyond help. for someone who has never been to Africa you have managed to accumulate some incredibly ignorant opinions. I bought three prints from Linda Lemon (Bill Lemon's wife). I ordered them and Bill brought them to me at SCI last year. They were numbered and signed and they are now framed and hanging in my office. I recommend her completely.

I really like Linda's work at that link. She has immediately gone into a short list of considerations. Thanks much!

jdollar,is the gift of art not found in Africa? I remember being in kindergarden and having classmates who were blessed with a talent for art.Why could there not be an african villager who cannot draw or paint you a wildife scene or refer you to someone who can.I would not take the Linda Lemon stuff for free.I may not have been to Africa but feel I AM AFRICA!

Well shootaway, when you go back to class tomorrow, perhaps you can commission one of your classmates, lend them your crayons and they can paint one for you...jeez. jorge

On a more serious note, that is some nice work by Linda. j

YD, if you like the great cats of the world, simon combes did a whole series of prints showing all of them . the images cover everything from the common species( leopard, lion, cheetah) to the rare ones(snow leopard, cloud leopard, etc.) the prints can often be found for sale individually or you can buy the whole series in a package that includes a signed coffee book showing how he researched and captured each image.. the total packages sold out quickly but occassionally you will find one for sale on the secondary market. since his untimely death a few years ago, prices on all his work has jumped. i especially like some of his earlier works that depict sweeping panoramas of African scenes- " Kilimanjaro Morning" and "The Crossing" are my favorites. Rod Fredricks also does some really nice African work and of course Robert Bateman has to be considered among the best. good luck with you quest. i have really enjoyed putting together my collection and have very little wall space left to hang another picture. jerry.

That's good because you certainly wouldn't get it for free.

And what are you, another of the many posers on here that like to act like they know Africa but have never set foot on the red soil?

See how nice that is to get rid of the flotsam?

I followed some good advice from jdollar and got a copy of the magazine Wildlife Art. I will continue to educate myself on the subject. Thanks again for those who contributed to the topic.

David Southgate is another artist to consider.

If you like big and dangerous game hunting scenes with double rifles, here are the first two of a series. The next one promises to be special (still to be released). Both of the paintings (ie originals) are available for sale.

"When a two's company and three's a crowd"

"Checking the charge"

Many fantastic wildife paintings and prints too.

"Rukomechi Sunrise"

"Lwamgwa Elephants"

Pottery and porcelain too:

More here.

Thanks John. I like the elephant print and the pottery is interesting also. That's the first painting I have seen to incorporate the hunter also.

Here is their direct link http://www.hungryheadstudios.com/index.htm

I went by Linda Lemon's booth at DSC a couple of times and stopped in today with my wife and daughters. She was very nice to all of us, and patient with my kids who decided to spend some of their Christmas money on some prints (paper, not giclee).

From my perspective, she does very nice work and equally important she was very pleasant to my entire family.

I hope to acquire more of her work in the future -- for me this time!

Now I just need a bigger office! Fat chance I know.
