Your choice for one and only safari?

All,

I was watching Boddington's African Experience today and he said that if he could only go on one safari ever it would be a 21 day safari in Tanzania. Now this is hypothetical because no one goes on just one safari, but if you could only go on one modern safari: What country? What area/areas? What outfit? What animals?

Let's hear it ladies and gentlemen. What's your choice?

I don't have much Africa experience yet, but as of now my pick in a 21 day in Tanzania!

Go on three safaris to Zim or Namibia for the same money, and shoot 3x as many animals.

Safari 1: Namibia plains game and leopard, and sand grouse!
Safari 2: Zim sable and buffalo, leopard if you didn't get one in Namibia.
Safari 3: Zim Elephant and whatever PG you haven't shot yet.

Left lion off the list...chances are you won't get one in TZ anyway.

OK if you had to choose one country one safari I would vote for Zim, booked now for next year while the prices are still good. Spend 10 days at Lemco/Bubiana to get your PG and leopard at lower daily rates, and then 10 days in the Valley for DG.

Actually, after thinking about Calebs answer, I wish to modify mine!

A 20 year safari through all the huntable countries in the world with long periods of rest in between hunts in Texas.

There. What the heck. It is my fantasy isn't it?

Wait a miunute ... that is what I am currently doing. Wow, my life is a fantasy!

Since its gonna be a thread of some dreamhunt that will be "untouchable" or out of reach, but yet could dream of...My "only safari" would be hunting jungle-elephants in India with my 10 bore double....but since that is impossible, hunting for a "full bag" in Ethiopia spending the traditionally 90 days.

I would also opt for Tanzania if it were my first Safari, but haveing hunted many times in Tanzania, I think today I would opt for Botswana and hunt for a big Elephant...in which case I would go with my good friend Johan Calitz and only for the holy grail of elephants, the 100 pounder..If I failed then I still would come home with a lot of wonderful memories or a great hunt, and a buffalo or two along with some plainsgame I suspect.....

zimbabwe

21 days in the Matetsi of Zimbabwe with lioness on the ticket. Since I have alread done this at least 3 times I would still like to get a Lioness. The first trip I missed on lion and the next 2 it was closed to lion. I cannot visualize any better place in Africa than Zimbabwe although there are probably some. I am quite satisfied with Zimbabwe.

My dream safari would be the one that lets me finish up on the main queries I have not yet taken in Africa. They are the bongo and mountain nyala. With prices going higher and bookings further out particularly for the nyala either of these may not happen. A safari to take both is probably only a fantasy but the idea that at least I MIGHT get one or the other makes the idea just that more delicious.

Tanzania w/o question for me. I'd do 28 days for a lifetime of memories. Book the hunt with Raoul Ramoni and plan to spend as much time as necessary in his Mwambesi area for big elephant. Then spend the remainder in one of his areas around Tarangire Park or Rungwa for the buffalo, plains game and cats.

If I could take only one safari and it was limited to 21 days,it would be in Tanzania. It would be a big four safari, but the primary focus would be on elephant and lion. Plains game of note would be gerenuck, lessor kudu, Grant's gazzele, E. African impala, sable and roan.

While there are several great operators, I'd be very happy with Miombo Safaris, Luke Samaras Safaris or Safari Trackers.

My choice would have to be a 21 day licence extended to 28 days in one of the best areas in the North or the West of Tanzania for the 'full bag'.

At current prices, daily rates and charters would be in the region of US$100K plus trophy fees, but it has to be one of the best possible African hunting safari experiences available.

My dream African hunt would be a 30-day safari with just me and a PH on a bakkie starting in the Kaokoveld in northwestern Namibia and working our way toward the Caprivi. I would hunt leopard, lion, elephant, cape buffalo, crocodile, hippo, and plains game. We would take only 7 days supply of food and would have to hunt smaller antelope for subsistence. It would be camping in a tent and the PH would have to be skilled in wilderness living.

The trophies and meat would have to be hauled back by skinners called in by radio - can't leave anyting to waste.

My dream Australian hunt would be on the same line, with buffalo, sambar, banteng, and crocodile being my main quarries.

Now if I only had the money to do all that I would be on the plane tomorrow.

Buy the kruger park lock the gates invite my mates for a 2 year hunt what ever we want and if i wake up after this dream and seeing my bank balance i will have to hunt at our local taxidermist with a paint ball gun.

Sorry David your lion got a blue paint mark on before it left couldnt get it out i thought it was stalking me LOL
