Interesting. I have to wonder what he did to make this a US crime? If, for example, he sold ivory to the Chinese, is that a US crime? I doubt it.

Most likely imported and sold some in the US.

I know exactly nothing about international law, or law in general. So, can someone explain to me about Interpol? Is the US part of it? Can a crime not committed in the US still be prosecuted and sentenced here if the US is part of Interpol? Again, I have no idea or expertise in this area whatsoever. Thanks for your explanation if you can inform me/us.

https://www.interpol.int/Who-we-are/Member-countries INTERPOL has 194 member countries, making us the world's largest police organization. They work together and with the General Secretariat to share data related to police investigations. Each country hosts an INTERPOL National Central Bureau (NCB), which links national police with our global network. Countries come together at our annual General Assembly to decide policy, working methods, finances and activities. In addition, heads of NCB meet annually at a conference to share experiences. >>>>>>>>>>>>>> "You've got the strongest hand in the world. That's right. Your hand. The hand that marks the ballot. Bwana338, thank you for that! So, since the US is part of Interpol, that means we can prosecute this guy, correct? Or would he have had to do something illegal with the US like someone mentioned above, like trying to sell ivory in America? I'm trying to figure out why he is being sent to the US, instead of other countries in which he has probably done the same thing.

My understanding is that he made a shipment to New York. That would confer jurisdiction.

Money laundering might be the reason, and using US Dollars through US banks.

For a US court to adjudicate a case against Mansour it must have both personal jurisdiction and subject matter jurisdiction. Personal jurisdiction was achieved with his extradition to the US. Subject matter jurisdiction requires alleged violation of a Federal statute (a very simplified explanation). Saeed is probably correct in that the most likely violation would be money laundering but they would need evidence of the other violations as well. Lets hope they can make the heroin case and he gets life. Pray the judge is a hunter! USMC Retired DSC Life Member SCI Life Member NRA Life Member

Fellas just remember the 'long arm of the law' is connected to your pockets and the longer it stretches the more you pay. I dont care what happens to this guy but I find the idea of importing criminals too much like free aid for a country who cant manage its affairs. The US already incarcerates 5x more of its citizens per capita than the rest of the 1st world, now you want the custodial burden of other countries too?? This guy was no Pablo Escobar, there are probably 2 million small fry like this in the world any one time, do you intend giving them all free bed, medical and food at tax payers expense?

Maybe build more homes for veterans, or hospitals . Fix up the worst medical system in the free world while you are at it. Providing a warm bed, medical and educational programs for small fry criminals from other countries is taking 'world policeman' too literally. It smells more of government departments expanding their budgets. And private prisons lobbying your government to spend tax payers money on their businesses.

Modern prisons are more like 3 star hotels providing a far more luxurious environment than most inmates ever had in their previous life.

Not sure where Karl from. But what do folks where he from do with criminals? or perhaps a lot of things not criminal there. I personally, would just eliminate them. Period. convicted, okay, death sentence, and no appeals. go out back and are shot, or something, now. But we have libs out there crying about a potential mili second of "pain", in executions now, so have to keep them and feed then. But don't worry, Biden just ordered that private prisons be not used in the future, et, and what are we going to do with the prisoners? set them free? Got to realize other countries more homononous than ours and perhaps don't have the criminal problems we do. I don't know the answer, other than the one I just put forth. But that, of course, not going to fly.

Karl's ancestors were hand picked by His majesty's judges. They were sent over there as punishment. They did exactly what you lot did to the rightful owners of that land. Tried to exterminate them. And unlike you, who devised a way of making sure the locals stayed drunk all the time, clueless of what goes around them in "reservations". The locals Down Under have just woken up. Saeed, its actually considered quite stylish if an Australian can prove descent to convicts, with ancestry.com more people are doing it. Not much in the way of 'founding fathers' but you have to take what you can Unfortunately 99% of the population immigrated after the convict era and having a german name as you know, I dont qualify. Now regards indigenous peoples, the worst invasion was the British empire then the yanks invading the Middle East. They got them drunk, but only on western lifestyle. Those who bowed low enough, got to keep their Royal Families. The more independant types, well they had to be bombed and replaced

A lot easier than an African prison thats for sure. If this guy was held in yemen or even kenya for 'questioning' he would be praying he can get to a nice US prison as soon as possible. I just hope he doesnt make a bad decision when he gets there. Some of the courses they do in federal prisons arent easy. Basket weaving is tough on the hands, but then so is guitar at first. Maybe the feds will have painting courses for older inmates? Any way the important thing is this lunatic is off African streets so kids in the US can grow up safe and look forward to contributing to his continued upkeep via taxes.

What you describe is the best research and development. A good medical system is one thats affordable, doesnt require insurance, nor selling your house to pay for surgery and 2 days in hospital.
