Sorry, can't help. As far as books are concerned, if a goat can't eat it, I won't read it. ![]() Mike Wilderness is my cathedral, and hunting is my prayer.

Brian Herne's book on White Hunters was fantastic in my opinion. A great summary of the history & some exciting stories. From that book I could just make a list of the top 20 I would like to read for more in depth pursuit. "When the wind stops....start rowing. When the wind starts, get the sail up quick."

Mike, I read quite a lot, and have quite an extensive library on Africa. But, I have found that using ebooks on an ipad so much more convenient. Years ago, we went to the Seychelles for a school break. We got so unlucky, that we more or less rained on all the time we were there. They had a big library at the island, with books from every imaginable nationality!! I think I read practically all the English books they had. Now, I put a few movies, as well as a few doze books on my ipad whenever I travel. And the nice things about ebooks is that with an Internet connection, one can log in and down load whatever takes your fancy. Imagine trying to do that while you are away from home with goat fodder!

I would suggest "The White Nile" by Alan Moorehead. Lots of history and is well written. Gives an account on the search for the source of the Nile from Speke through Livingston, Stanley, Gordon and many others. One of my favorites. The only easy day is yesterday!

I just read Hunting the grizly (and many other games) by Theo Roosevelt and I do appreciate this book. Especially on a high stand for roebuck or boar. As I have still read Roosevelt African adventures and Maneaters of Tsavo. I also read "how I found Livingstone" by Stanley but it's quite boring. hunting the grisly J B de Runz Be careful when blindly following the masses ... generally the "m" is silent

MJines, I enjoyed "The Last Resort: A Memoir of Zimbabwe". Have you read the Peter Godwin books, "Mukiwa: A White Boy in Africa" and "When a Crocodile Eats the Sun: A Memoir of Africa"? You would probably enjoy them also. Also, "The Africa House: The True Story of an English Gentleman and His African Dream" by Christina Lamb. ![]()

I've got quite a few over at: http://lvhs.co.za/ Just click on the 'Books' link on the top banner. Most of these are from Gutenberg, but because I am OCD on certain things, they have been cleaned up and formatted.

You'll love Hunter. Not on Kindle, though. About 10 years ago, one of J.A. Hunter's Boss .500 N.E.'s was for sale for $19,000 at Champlins for about 10 minutes. I was one call too late for the rifle. Alas. JudgeG ... just counting time 'til I am again finding balm in Gilead chilled out somewhere in the Selous.
