In '98 we accidentally walked up on one at about 10 yds. that was fast asleep. It's hard to use sign language to keep a woman and teenager quiet to sneak away.

I saw 9 in 15 days (only 1 with a calf), and was ever careful to heed my PH's instructions about keeping an eye out. We walked xcountry to another track while the tracker went for the bakkie; when it started to get dark, the PH picked a tree which would hold all 3 of us, and we waited for headlights! This same week, another bull put several holes thru the door of the petrol Cruiser, just to let them know who's the boss.

I'll be honest. With so many friends on so many forums, I just didn't even know this one was here. Started following it when I made plans for my Africa trip, and loved all the great help. How've you been?

Those black rhino are quite territorial. This one took a quick go at us right after I shot this photo while we were plains game hunting in central Zim. in '02. Luckily for us he wasn't too serious as our PH said we couldn't shoot under ANY circumstances. He suggested climbing a tree, but I saw very few trees other than baobabs that could take a full charge. I hope the hunters in Nambia recover fully as quickly as possible. Kyler
