Clients tossed by black rhino
Just learned secondhand from a friend that an incident occured in Namibia while people were out hunting plains game. A father and daughter were both tossed by a 4-5 year old female black rhino, while they were looking for an animal they'd shot the night before. MedEvac to Windhoek was required, but serious injuries only, not life threatening. A doctor was one of the party and provided first aid until the flight. Thank goodness everyone will be all right. This just proves that "real" Africa can find you anywhere, and attention to detail is always necessary anywhere/anytime.

In '98 we accidentally walked up on one at about 10 yds. that was fast asleep. It's hard to use sign language to keep a woman and teenager quiet to sneak away.

I saw 9 in 15 days (only 1 with a calf), and was ever careful to heed my PH's instructions about keeping an eye out. We walked xcountry to another track while the tracker went for the bakkie; when it started to get dark, the PH picked a tree which would hold all 3 of us, and we waited for headlights! This same week, another bull put several holes thru the door of the petrol Cruiser, just to let them know who's the boss.

I'll be honest. With so many friends on so many forums, I just didn't even know this one was here. Started following it when I made plans for my Africa trip, and loved all the great help. How've you been?

Those black rhino are quite territorial. This one took a quick go at us right after I shot this photo while we were plains game hunting in central Zim. in '02.

Luckily for us he wasn't too serious as our PH said we couldn't shoot under ANY circumstances. He suggested climbing a tree, but I saw very few trees other than baobabs that could take a full charge.

I hope the hunters in Nambia recover fully as quickly as possible.
