Thank you Mary and my thanks to your husband and brother-in-law for years of great stuff my whole family used and enjoyed.

Thanks too for the many catalogs that we read and re-read wishing we could buy something on nearly every page.

Very sad news for the hunting community. May she rest in peace, having done great work for both hunting and conservation.

Mary was a very nice, down to earth woman. we had the privilege of visiting her home twice. That was a real experience.

She did a hell of a lot for conservation. Some of you may have heard of the 24 lions move. The Cabela Family Foundation funded that move completely. My office handled all the money for the move that the CFF contributed.

They funded a lot of lesser know conservation projects.

RIP Mary.

20 years ago, I was on a business trip[ around the Detroit area and stopped in at the Cabelas in Dundee Michigan. They had the most incredible African savanna taxidermy diorama I had every seen. The Elephant was incredible, the tusks touching the ground. Taken in Angola I think in the 1970's
I don't know how to judge ivory from just a visual standpoint, but this was a big Mutha, approaching 100 pounder.

I asked an employee " who took this elephant?"

"Mrs. Cabela" was the reply.
Mary Cabela must have been an incredible person, and I have heard that her conservation efforts have benefited African wildlife and the people

RIP Mrs. Cabela.

Very sad news but we can celebrate her life's work in remembrance. Most of us have purchased gear from Cabela's for our own adventures.

Several years ago we were in a hunting camp in Zimbabwe and one of the PHs was a gentleman (Sean Grant) who had guided Mary on a lion hunt. Sean related that she was a delight to have as a client. He also shared that one evening in sneaking quietly on their way to the lion blind he cautioned her about making a bit much noise while walking in. She sat down, took off her boots, and walked the rest of the way in her socks. As I recall she was in her 70s at the time. Pretty tough gal, and a truly determined hunter.
