I spoke to a couple of PHs this week and they are either done or heading into their last hunt. For the most part, the season is just about over.

Winter is just about here in the north country. I've got lots of new reading material to keep me thinking about Africa. My question is what's in the plans for all of you?

I have plans to go to Pemba, Moz and Capetown, SA (and possibly Bots or Zim) but that is work related. I have considered adding a hunt to the end of that but don't know if I can yet (thanks to Wendell for the excellent offer on tracking eland in the Kalahari with the Bushmen). I am also contemplating a buff/leopard hunt in Zim with Alan Shearing again but that will probably be in '09.

What's in the works for you guys? Will '08 be the year of the buff, leopard, tuskless or maybe someone will try for lion? Plainsgame in Namibia or maybe a Lord Derby Eland in Cameroon or mountain nyala in Ethiopia?

I like the cooler weather and I like hunting in the green jess. It also is more compatible with my schedule.

For the people who hunt in Burkina Faso, Cameroun and the Central African Republic the season isn't really over. In fact, it will commence in a couple of months.

YD,

I'm planning at this time to take '08 off from Africa unless something really nice falls in my lap. In '09 I'm considering a couple of things including buffalo and some of the litte guys.

Huh, well if Mark isn't going to Africa he has something else in the works I am sure. I seriously considered Australia but the work trip to Moz kind of tears that up.

I just returned from Wendell's ranch where we hunted Mouflon, Aoudad and Fallow Deer (American Hunting forum for report) and will head to Illinois for Whitetail Deer soon. Other than a return trip to Wendell's for Red Stag in December, it will be waterfowl and Deer until the end of January. Then early June for Ducks in Argentina and onto Zimbabwe for Leopard, Sable and some pygmies. With luck, I'll swing through RSA before heading home in July. LDK

I am off to Kansas this Thursday for two weeks of my favorite Stateside hunting. Bowhunting for trophy whitetail. Reports from my buddy on the ground there look encouraging. Will be trying to top my best to date of 172 SCI. It's just great to be in the Midwest woods at this time of year. In January it's off to the SCI Convention in Reno, where it will be decision making time for anything forthcoming in 08/09. Down under for Buff, Buff/Leopard in Moz., return to Namibia or the Eastern Cape RSA, black bear in British Columbia are all considerations at this time.

Damn, but what I'd give to be able to do that! - maybe also hunt a bear as well, but sadly time just doesn't allow me to do so........ Between now and when I start my migratory season again, we have to get all the planning done and also find time to buy and equip a new hunting truck.

I've got two trips to Africa next year. April is an all women's hunt in RSA and then again in August with another group of ladies in RSA. I'm also going to hunt in Namibia after the August ladies hunt, but only plains game this time around.

I have been pronghorn hunting since returning from Africa, and have also been doing a bit of upland bird hunting over my gundogs. I am also a artist/painter and hope to put some of my African experiences on canvas over the winter.

I probably won't make it back to Africa next year, but nourish a dream to make it back some day for Cape Buffalo
