I tried submitting my application, the website will not accept it because I cannot put a state in the space provided, nor a zip code.

May be Ricardo or any other member can help?

Does anyone think SCI/Reno would recognize or appreciate AR and its members?

I do believe SCI would appreciate AR members with the same attitude shown toward them as is shown toward DSC. The problem is there are many posters here that have a problem with SCI, basically because of the donation requirement. I did find it interesting the number of vendors at DSC the had posters or signs indication they were donors to DSC. I want all to know I have no problem with donations or the fact it is part of the pecking order at SCI and am not sure if DSC rewards vendors that donate to their auctions. I am sure Ricardo can sshed some light on this subject. I noticed a poster (first time attendee to DSC) said DSC was like SCI 25 yrs ago.

I attended SCI convention once 2006 and am a member, have attended DSC 2007,08,08 & 10 but am not a current member. I have nothing against DSC just that I live in Pa and can not participate in their monthly meetings etc. I am involved in SCI local chapter and I like their publication better than the DSC quarterly publication.

Thanks to Mike and all the AR hands that helped to organise the fantastic meal on Friday, as well as the get together on Saturday. I put names to faces, and liked all that enjoyed a drink with. Also many thanks to DSC for picking up the dinner bill. Me, KarlS and Kwan (Walter Enslin) huddled in the PH corner Big Grin with the meal and realy had some great fun.

Unbelieveable that some folks here only got to bed on 07:00 on Sunday morning, and there was not only 1 person!!!! Just goes to show what a great time was had by all. I am looking forward to seeing y'all next year again. David, feed the lovely doggie of yours rose petals next time, cutting the cheese like that was a highlight of the night on Saturday.... jumping

although we booked some hunts, the show was slow for us, but our Mozambique operation will be well up and running next year, so I'm looking forward to that. Folks are still scared to book unfamiliar areas, understandably so. The new Moz. Professionals hunters Assoc. will be formed on the 6'th of May in Xai-Xai, and I will be one of the new members there. We are hoping this will give some credibility to hunters.

Also, good news there are some forces at work behind the scenes to open the import of ivory from Moz to the US, hold your thumbs folks!!!!!

I just can not say enough about how pleasant and helpful the staff of DSC were.
Always had smiles , they really did make the show , You can tell a lot of planning went into putting it all together . Just to let you know , it doesn’t go unnoticed or appreciated !
And yes a new member this year also ,after going to more conventions than I can remember and I didn’t even win the Buffalo hunt,, must have been a great show!

Mike ( Retreever), as always you and your wife are “ The Ultimate Host “
Saturday night was a blast, got the chance to meet a few more of the AR posters and put more faces to names . You can always spot Mike , he is the one with the bigger than life smile and those massive 450 no. 2 rounds on his belt , kinda hard to miss ! And because he is such a great guy, he gave me one of those rounds,,( looking at it now) I must say it makes my 375 Ackley look,,,well small , Just wanted to say thanks from the bottom of my heart , Cheryl and I hope to share a camp together with you two sometime .

It is not just the donation bit that bothers a lot of us.

What about all of our questions regarding what does SCI actually DO for African hunting?

We have been asking this for so long, and none one has been able to give us any answers.

Saeed, if you can scan and email your application to me, that would be most helpful. I will handle it from there. If fax works better for you, please let me know. (Any one who may be having difficulites, please feel free to do the same. I'll send my fax number, or that of the DSC office, to you or you can get it from the website).

Die Ou Jagter, the rewards exhibtors get for their donations are 1)better standing in the credit system that is designed to help with booth location - the more credits you have accumulated, the better your chances of getting your preferred booth and 2) knowing that they have helped the DSC funds its grants, education programs and advocacy efforts.

I'm happy to answer any more questions.

Thanks,
Richard

You mean you, like most conventions, allocate booth locations based on value of donation....

Just like the evil empire SCI?

Guess SOME may have to rethink their application...

Dinsdale, we don't require a donation. Many, many exhibitors do not make donations. The vast majority of exhibitors keep their booth location from year to year unless they ask us to move them. We will have some requests for relocations this year and we will try to accomodate everyone. Exhibitors can accumulate credits in many other ways besides donations. This system has been inplace for years, and so far it seems to be working ok.

And by the way, we certainly don't view SCI as the evil empire. We have many common members and exhibitors and we share a common passion. I haven't been to Reno, but look forward to the day I can get there.

My comments are not directed at you,and for the record I am a member of both, even though I have never been to DSC or even Texas for that matter.

But if you have lurked here much, there seems to be a flow of SCI bashing from those who have neither joined nor attended either convention.

I think there is room for both as they have different missions, and to me that's fine and why I am in both.

And to be clear this is tounge-n-cheek;

For SCI guy's;I demand to now what you have done for hunting in Bora-Bora....

And for DSC;what you have done for me in the state of Rhode Island....

rotflmo

For me you need to think enough to understand what each group is trying for, sometimes behind the scenes,a concept that seems to get lost on some.

Ricardo, although I've attended the DSC convention previously, this was my first year to have a booth. Due to the long waiting list, it took two years to get in but it was worth the wait. I couldn't have asked for a more friendly group of men and women to work with. While moving in and out I had DSC members come up and ask if they could help me with my booth and any time I had a question, they were eager to assist me. I want to thank all of your membership not only for hosting our AR dinner at Pappas BBQ, but for putting on one of the best shows in all of America. Our Australian trophy Buffalo hunt donation was a success (thanks to Paul at Southern Safaris Australia) on the silent auction and hopefully we can do that again next year.
Kind regards,
David Keith

Gentlemen,

It was my pleasure, on behalf of the DSC, to pick up the AR dinner tab Friday night. As a lurker on this board I have come to realize that if you want to know the truth about what's going on in the hunting world, and get solid reliable information, this is the place to go. I only know a few you, but I can say that if you are anything like Mike Podwika, I want to meet you next year when I have a little more time. Mike, I really enjoyed visitng with you and your wife.

The show was a big success. I heard good reports from exhibitors, and believe we actually will find we had record setting attendance. It was hard to tell by looking at the floor, as we had more space than in Market Hall, and more cross aisles to divert attendees off of the main aisles. I am told that our Saturday evening speaker, Greg Stubbe, was flat out amazing (I was at the Convention Center dealing with the water line break and missed Greg's speech).

I thought it was only appropriate to recognize you folks and dinner was but a small token of our thanks for your support of the Club and the convention over the years. I hope to see you, and those who couldn't make it this year (come on down Larry Sellers), at our next convention, VISIONS 2011.

Thanks again,
Richard T. Cheatham,
Convention Chairman,
First Light

I would like to thank you for treating us to dinner. While I know how totally busy you will be you are most cordially invited to drop by any of our events.

Well, everyone has said it and I will concur with the sentiments,

Thank you DSC, for open mindedness which you had too AR, and yes we had fun, as said by Charl, it was great too put faces to names,

It is great that the couch potatoes and knowitalls, do not show up, and in so proving them for what they are as well,

Ricardo, as exhibitor, Thank you, just as always, one request, have the doors leading into aisle 400/500 open as well next year, then we will disperse the foot traffic I think more evenly as well.

JudgeG, the 2011 dates are January 6-9.

Walter, I had actually suggested something similar to draw traffic towards the back of the hall and was told it couldn't be done. Maybe the doors in front don't have the same issues as those farther from the front entrance. I will pass along your request to my successor, and promise that it will receive due consideration and discussion.

Bill Cooley, thank you. It may be a year or two before my official duties ebb, but I definitely want to come to one of your evening functions.

Thanks to all, and see you in 2011.

Hopefully Retreever will post a photo of Flat Stanley.
Thanks to all the AR members that stopped by our booth to say Howdy and visit a spell.
We enjoyed seeing everyone.
After working a booth all day my bride wanted to go home and get shoes off, the shower on and in the bed...we were both pretty well done it at the end of the day.
The new location is good but only if we can get the load in / out issues solved. Lots of stress there for the exhibitors.
See you again next week in Reno if you are there.
Better tomorrows to all!

It was our first year to attend the DSC convention and all I can say is WOW. We were told it was more laid back than Reno, and they were right. Easy to talk to exhibitors and friends. Weather could have been warmer (hint). But the town and people were the best. We even got to stay an extra day when they closed the Cleveland airport and were delayed until Monday to fly home. I did get a chance to say Hi to Retreiver too.

Maybe I should consider applying for a booth to display and sell some real ethical plains game hunting and good wingshooting there in January 2011?

Could also consider donating my Andrew McLaren Safaris 2011 Free Hunt to DSI as a 'bribe'to get a decent display booth as is the norm elsewhere? Big Grin

Lots of options, but right now I cannot get access to the membership web site! Darn! Mad Internet in South Africa is jsut the same as Electricity in South Africa: Sometimes it works, sometimes not! Mad

Andrew,

I think you will run into the same problems I had.

Basicallly it is set up for people in the US to apply for membership, and if you do not enter a "state" and "zip" code you will not be able to go any further.

It might be an idea for DSC to modify their form.

I have seen other forms that have something like "none" or "outside the US and Canada" in the "states column.
Then one can enter any zip in the zip column and things go through.

Richard has kind offered to help, and I have already sent in my application to him.
