I don't really post too much on this forum, but I thought ya'll might like to see this 38"er that we took off of a 358000 acre ranch near white sands. I'm on the right(the good looking one) and my buddy Troy is on the left. It took about 3 hours to put her in the dirt!....wapiti7

With the exception of the cactus or whatever it is in the background it looks like youre in Africa.

Good one at 38" thumb

Wapiti7, nice gemsbok
I shot a 38 1/2 inch female gemsbok on the small missile range at white sands. I was lucky and drew a tag on my first try. I shot two other in SA but have not broken 40 inches yet.

Nice,

What type of hunt was it? One of the private land depradation hunts or ?. I drew the North Range for the first hunt after 911 and we wound up with a 3/4 day hunt. I passed up several in the 32-35" range and wound up skunked. Success rate was only 60% for that group. Really low. Got a 36"+ on the main post on a depradation hunt in 04. Mainly a come and kill it deal. Met the escort at 0600 and was headed out the gate to the processors at 0730.

Nice one there.

Good on ya. That is one beautiful Gemsbok. Might well make SCI if you are interested. My grandsons live in Socorro, NM, pretty close to where these wonderful critters are. I keep pestering them to put in. For a resident the fee is minimal. cheers
Do you happen to know an old compadre of mine in Farmington, Jay Faurot?

Nice Gemsbok! Will probably go in the high 80s score wise but she's a dandy. What's the story? Has to be a good one using a smoke pole. LDK

How does an out-of-stater go about getting on one of these hunts? Are they offered by outfitters?

I've got a twelve year old that would enjoy that sort of hunt.

Well the story is sad but true. We whacked her with a 30-378. The smoke pole got left behind us about 150 yards because we just couldn't close the distance. The finances involved in the tag dictated a dead animal no matter what the weapon. But I didn't have a pic with the rifle to post. The good news is that last july I shot a 33 1/2" bull with my muzzleloader. I'll post the pic next. Remember that if you guys draw an off range tag, I would be happy to take you and do the video. Also, I have access for private land permits for 2500. But dont forget that you will still have to pay the 1616 to the state. If I can help you apply or ease your summer bordom, let me know......wapiti7
