Why?

Melodramatic BS, "I realized I was going to die ..." It's not nearly as dangerous as he wants you to believe and how he stages it. Ladies and Gents, you need to be careful out there, but if you ever "realize you are going to die" you probably will.

Still bringing African hunting into disrepute after 35 years!
In New Zealand such bragging is known as skiting, and a skite is the lowest form of life.

Mark Sullivan used to live in the Phoenix area. He was along time member of the Phoenix Chapter, SCI.

He came to most of our annual fundraisers and donated many books and video packs as silent auction items.

He was always kind, interesting to talk to and engaging with every member. I never had the desire to hunt with him, but I also never disliked him. Meeting him is different than watching his videos.

He also helped fill the room. love him or hate him, he has some celebrity factor.

I remember being a young kid out of highschool. Driving south across the border to visit the giant Lacey WA cabelas. It was like a Mecca for outdoorsman growing up and the selection was 10x what we had at home.

I always looked at the dvds and dreamt of buying a Mark Sullivan Safari dvd. They were expensive and I used to buy a couple brittingham safari dvds instead each trip.

One day I said screw it and spent the 50+ usd on "death at my feet"

So excited to see just what this was all about. An adventure seeking exciting safari for sure.....

I just got more and more confused as I watched, and what finally made me change my opinion or mind on him, was shooting a charging hippo and he said "we both shot and hit him in the EXACT same hole" when you could clearly hear only the one shot and I just couldn't stand the lie. Why lie. It was not authentic.

Basically everything in his videos is based on lies!

I have absolutely no time or respect for an individual who goes out of his to do this!

I don’t think so.

I was told he was kicked out of Tanzania.

Then he gravitated to South Africa to guide idiots to shoot farm grown animals - some of those were posted here.

I also heard he went to Alaska to guide.

And fell foul of the laws there too.

No idea if this is true.

But knowing his past, I wouldn’t put it past him!

He is still hunting in Tanzania often and seams to have a good back log. He sends pics and videos almost daily when he is hunting. I’ve never hunted with him but we talk almost weekly as he is a double rifle nut and is still buying and selling often like me. Lots of ballistic talk as well. He’s has always been extremely nice and pleasant.

All the other complaints about him I have no idea, I have not experienced any of them.

...ah, ... news from Mark.
For 75 years he looks great.
(And he is dayly in the gym, like ever.)

I had made two big events with him in the past in Germany.
These was great days.
We had a lot of fun.
He was polite, friendly and had mutch love and knowledge about the dark continent.

I was with him the field in my homeland, but never in Africa.
(And there everything was okay.)

I can not say, if the crasy storys about him are correct or not (a navy seal team sniper shoots in the balls of an buffalo to get an charge, or that he only can make his stuns in front of an hippo because he was backed up by an delta force operator, pp.)
I was not there.
The people who had hunted with him in Africa are allways (and we got some reports here, not only from cal) fully saticfied.

Absolutely. I did spend a few days with him and another member here hunting quail and hogs. In person, he is nothing like what one sees on camera. He is a very nice guy. Pretty low key.

I guarantee that if most sat down with him talked hunting, you would find yourselves in complete agreement with him.

He has to be getting up there in age. His guiding days must be numbered.

I think it’s no different than having drink with someone in private and then meet them in business environment
Usually different outlooks
I watched his videos and it’s entertaining like most movies and videos
Few of my friends that met him have nothing but great things to say about him
I don’t have an opinion about himas I have never met him

My take on this is different.

That anyone, who goes out of his way to portray himself, and hunting, in the manner that he does, is not the sort of person I would like to meet.

He states himself that he gloats in the fact that all professional hunters hate him!

What sort of man does that?

There is something fundamentally wrong with him!

. . . I don’t know, maybe someone that has to find a niche or angle to make a living to support their family in the profession they love as opposed to someone born into the lucky sperm club. Why did Capstick write in the style he did? To sell books. Why does Mark make DVDs in the style he does? To sell DVDs. Not your type of book or DVD . . . don’t buy it.

Then we would have to condemn every lawyer, banker, and just about every business owner, politician etc. just because
Sorry, I won’t do it unless I personally get to know particular person

love of double rifles.

I talked to Cal about it. Cal saw what we all see and felt that part of the Mark persona was marketing…like John Sharp and his Hulk Hogan outfit/hair or Ivan Carter and his “get real close” antics.

Are Sullivan’s ethics right? Most say no.
Do his videos sell? Yes, more than most.

Saeed has his indignation with Sullivan and I agree that he is not a role model. Yep Cal appreciated his knowledge and skills. The relationship was based on actual interaction with each other rather than the name calling we see on AR.

True, and agreed, he's an entertainer that has a schtick, what's wrong with being the "charachter"? Many in this "sport" take themselves entirely to serious.

you forgot to add the humour of Cal and the love to enjoy playing with Saeed ... but again between Cal and Mark it was the love of double rifles at first. the rest i cant tell as i never spoke really with him on that as the mark is not my thing at all and i met some on the same level as him in the past in africa except for the dvds part ...
