This is a photo of my friend Colin with a huge stag he recently shot in the Eastern Cape region of South Africa near Cathcart. The stag weighed 75kgs field dressed and was killed at 220 meters with a 308. Colin is on the left with his guide Jason and was hunting with his father who is 500nitro on this forum. Colin is a great young man, a very keen hunter and a very good competitve shooter with rifles and shotguns. Perry

Nicely done. The fallows are interesting and make good venison. _______________________________

I think that's the first really spotted fallow I've seen. His hide looks very much like an axis deer. Beautiful animal! _____________________ A successful man is one who earns more money than his wife can spend.

That is excellent for an EC Fallow, and as mentioned, the first spotted I've seen from the East Cape. Congrats to him! Colin was using hand loaded 130gr GS Custom HP's doing 2950fps. The deer slaughtered out at 75kg. He shot 3 deer, of which this was by far the biggest, and each one has a similar beautiful spotted coat with the black line running up the spine. That's really nice - I see a fair amount of fallow where I hunt, but I've not seen such an impressive buck. It makes the black fallow spiker I shot last Saturday seem quite tiny - but mine'll taste even better Why? Cos it's mine! Good luck to him.

I do not believe a Fallow will get much bigger in SA. That is a nice trophy anywhere in the world, an exceptional one, given the country it came from.

Hi guys.Thats a great trophy for your son.Every year i hunt fallow deer at least four or five a year and in South Africa this is the best time of the year to hunt them. They are just starting the rutt. Its great waking up early and going out and hearing the males calling one another to fight. That spotted coat would have started changing colour by now to that greyish fawn colour. As soon as they start rutting their coats change. You get black and white fallow deer aswell in South Africa and to shoot a fellow in velvet makes a beautifull trophy but you have to know how to treat the velvet or you will loose it.You will also be suprised how big fellow get in S.A.I know of a couple of 32 and 33 inch deer that have been shot and i have 3 in the 29 inch range with one 30 incher and that one is a black one.I also have a full mounted fellow that was still in velvet with that beautifull spoted coat.If anyone in S.A is thinking of hunting a fallow deer now the time to do itbefore they start breaking their antlers in the rutt. They also stop eating now and loose condition quickly and the worst thing is that they start pissing on themselves espcially on their necks and then the meat is not very good it has a strong smell.Hunting fallow in the eastern cape in mountain areas can be very challenging.
