Hopefully someone from AR will win this. Pretty good odds, 1 in 100, any chance this can lion could be imported, haven't read much of the lion threads?

Interesting in that you have the choice if you win of hunting the Lion or darting and collaring the Lion and removing it from the hunting quota.

I would love to know the intent of the 100 ticket purchasers. How many want to hunt it, how many want to collar it.

If one in the USA wins, does he have to pay federal income tax on the true value of the hunt?

Not being a gambler and having been unsuccessful on my one and probably only lion hunt due to politics, I might be interested in this if it could be bought outright.

Martin is trying to raise money for a great cause in the BVC. He has asked me to draw the winning ticket on Friday at the SCI Convention. If sufficient tickets are not sold, the monies will be refunded to everyone. Martin Nel is an outstanding PH.

The Tax answer is no unless you voluntarily decided to self repot the net difference in the ticket price and FMV (fair market value) of a lion hunt which is itself highly variable...not to mention a "purchase" in a foreign country who's value would or could be questionable should the IRS somehow magically question
The short answe Cal is No...

Have no idea where this lion is, but I get the impression that it is someone's pet!

And whoever is ruffling it it is trying to get $150,000 for it!

Not my cup of tea.

Saeed: This is in the Bubye Valley Conservancy in Zimbabwe. Rest assured that these are not pet lions and the BVC has some of, if not the best, lion hunting in Zimbabwe. This is the real deal. This is to support the BVC's longstanding and ongoing lion research program.

If I understand right, Lemco was a poached out, overgrazed cattle ranch that was turned into the 925,000 acre Bubye Valley Conservancy in the mid 90's. Pretty much the poster child for modern conservation by hunting, led by several very well respected PH's, they don't hide the fact that hunting pays the bills. The place is supposedly covered up in plains game with the big five present in large number's. They do have a few named lions but I doubt all of them have a name. they have a great website, check it out
