What are the outfitters responsibilities for activities on days remaining in a hunt, after desired game has been taken.
For example, 10 day buffalo hunt, game taken on day 3, what to do.

That should be hashed out prior to the hunt.

I bagged out on day 3 of a 7 day hunt with Johnny du Plooy in 2010. He asked us what we wanted to do and we went out everyday as if we still had animals on quota and he took Joyce on mock stalks and had her on sticks.

That resulted in her growing interest in actually hunting and her success this year with Andrew.

I know Johnny viewed our remaining time in camp as our own and would have done what ever we wanted.

Definately something to be discussed beforehand! I finished on day 7 of 10, took a camp rest day then we just went out and explored the countryside for a couple of days. Had the option of some plains game but declined and just enjoyed the experience.

When we are done in Zim or Moz, there is always several days left for Tiger fishing. More good fishing, drinks just relaxing. I'd rather be out there than in some guest house waiting for my flight.

Other than providing board and lodging and getting you back to the airport, the outfitter has basically fulfilled his responsibility. Your time remaining is your call. Certainly most outfitters will offer additional activities like fishing, if available, sightseeing and touring, but most of all, he will usually offer other game species if you so desire with applicable trophy fees.

My outfitter did a great job guiding to two good buffalo and a very nice sable. It took 5 days of a 10 day hunt in Mozambique. He then shifted his attention to another hunter for leopard. He's a young guy and probably just over committed. I've been there and done that many years ago, so I can cut him some slack.
We did have an understanding that my remaining time would be used to fish the Zambezi, drive from Moz to SA and fish bonefish in the Indian ocean. In the end, I called Delta and came home early.
The memories and photos are great. I shot everything with a Ruger Mag in .458 Lott with 500 grn A-Frames of my handloads, and a VX-R 1.25X4 scope in EAW mounts. What an experience!
Thanks for your responses.

Taking along an air rifle or a shotgun can add some great bird shooting when you are tagged out on the big stuff. Stalking a covey of francolin with a .177 scoped air gun is a real hoot. Similarly, shooting sand grouse coming into a pan at dusk will challenge even the most proficient wing shot.

Last year with Mokore in the Save I went through my trophy fee budget by about day six of ten scheduled days. It was at that point that Doug Duckworth, my PH, told me that they had a leopard hunter coming right after me who wanted pre-baiting. He very politely asked if I would mind shooting five impala for bait. So I spent the next two days picking non-trophy mature males out for leopard bait.

After that we tracked up some buffalo and went on several long walks through the bush, ostensibly looking for a montrous warthog with which to blow my budget, but mostly just to be out walking in the bush. (We never did find quite the right pig.)
I have also found that a day at the end of the hunt with "quota" filled is a great opportunity for taking pictures of all the things you drove or walked past all the previous days.
