Ladies and Gentlemen,

It is school holiday time, and the kids wanted to go camping in the desert.

So we decided to go and spend one night camping.

Our camp site.

The kids all had insect collecting bags, and enjoyed filling them up withall sorts of little things.

Hessa helping Jonathan prepare our dinner. And very delicious it was too!

We had quite a bit of a struggle putting our tents up, as a sand storm decided to blwo just then! About an hour after this photo was taken, all was quiet again!

Jonathan kept all of us away from "his" fire, as he like to do all the cooking for us.

We found the skeleton on a dead camel, and this little guy was sunning himself on top of it.

Another photo of our lizard.

We found an amazing colony of locusts, they seem to be breeding here, as they were in several different sizes.

I am afraid not.

But, we found the tracks of a cat. And at night we could see its eyes shining up on the mountain next to us. We decided to go up and have a look.

The ladies were not too happy about this, as they suspected it was an Arabian leopard, and were in fear we might be attacked by him!

Anyway, we disregarded their warning, and went up to look.

We found the tracks of a deser cat.

Next morning we found that the cat walked around our camp during the night.

Saeed,

Great photos...looks like a fun time...

But where was Walter?

Mike

Legistine actu? Quid scripsi?

Never under estimate the internet community's ability to reply to your post with their personal rant about their tangentially related, single occurrence issue.

What I have learned on AR, since 2001:
1. The proper answer to: Where is the best place in town to get a steak dinner? is…You should go to Mel's Diner and get the fried chicken.
2. Big game animals can tell the difference between .015 of an inch in diameter, 15 grains of bullet weight, and 150 fps.
3. There is a difference in the performance of two identical projectiles launched at the same velocity if they came from different cartridges.
4. While a double rifle is the perfect DGR, every 375HH bolt gun needs to be modified to carry at least 5 down.
5. While a floor plate and detachable box magazine both use a mechanical latch, only the floor plate latch is reliable. Disregard the fact that every modern military rifle uses a detachable box magazine.
6. The Remington 700 is unreliable regardless of the fact it is the basis of the USMC M40 sniper rifle for 40+ years with no changes to the receiver or extractor and is the choice of more military and law enforcement sniper units than any other rifle.
7. PF actions are not suitable for a DGR and it is irrelevant that the M1, M14, M16, & AK47 which were designed for hunting men that can shoot back are all PF actions.
8. 95 deg F in Africa is different than 95 deg F in TX or CA and that is why you must worry about ammunition temperature in Africa (even though most safaris take place in winter) but not in TX or in CA.
9. The size of a ding in a gun's finish doesn't matter, what matters is whether it’s a safe ding or not.
10. 1 in a row is a trend, 2 in a row is statistically significant, and 3 in a row is an irrefutable fact.
11. Never buy a WSM or RCM cartridge for a safari rifle or your go to rifle in the USA because if they lose your ammo you can't find replacement ammo but don't worry 280 Rem, 338-06, 35 Whelen, and all Weatherby cartridges abound in Africa and back country stores.
12. A well hit animal can run 75 yds. in the open and suddenly drop with no initial blood trail, but the one I shot from 200 yds. away that ran 10 yds. and disappeared into a thicket and was not found was lost because the bullet penciled thru. I am 100% certain of this even though I have no physical evidence.
13. A 300 Win Mag is a 500 yard elk cartridge but a 308 Win is not a 300 yard elk cartridge even though the same bullet is travelling at the same velocity at those respective distances.

Mike,

This was supposed to be just a one night out, and Walter would not fit into this sort of things.

He needs a few days to "prepare" himself.

He called just as were leaving.

Walter "Have you gone yet?"
Me "We are on the way"

Walter "Good. Don't come back too soon!"
Me "That is not very nice is it? You are supposed to say have a great time, and come back safely!"

Walter "What is supposed to happen never happens with you. You are supposed to be MY friend too. And friends are normally nice to each other. You have never been nice to me from that first day we met when you took me in your boat and tried to kill me"

Me "You must be a glutton for punishment then. Why did you come back for more then?"

Walter "I believe in human goodness. And I am trying very hard to find something nice about you. And so far this has escaped me"

Me "Roy and Alan are coming at the end of the month. And I am sure both will be very happy to know your feelings, especially as you won't be coming along this year"

Walter WHAT? WHAT DID YOU SAY?"

Me "I said we might show you some of our photoes after we come back from Tanzania, that is what I said"

Walter "How does that old saying goes? About over my dead body? But this time it is going to be over YOUR dead body, You are NOT going to Tanzania without me! Someone has tp provide the enjoyment for everyone in the camp. You and those Vincents think of only hunting, hunting and more hunting."

Me "You can talk to Alan when he gets here, and you can book any hunt you wish with him. But, don't expect any of us to be there with you. Not as long as you have this obnoxious attitude!"

Walter "My DEAR friend Saeed, I hope you provide plenty of fun in the desert - very hard to imagine, without me being there. And I look forward to seeing you tommorrow - call me on the way back, I will be waiting at your house with flowers"

Me "I don't want any flowers from you, thank you! What do you think I am, gay or something?"

Walter "Don't delude yourself. The flowers are NOT for you. They are for my sweatheart and her mother. That is the only reason I want to see you come back safely"

What a nice friend to have ha?

This is the type of thing I cannot wait to introduce my daughter to. Can;t help but think that these outings help to center a kid in the madness of modern living. Oddly, your daughter and mine share the same name save the first letter, mine is Dessa. Does Hessa have a specific meaning? Dessa means 'wanderer' and I am afraid she will likely inherit my wife's and my gypsy gene.

Camping is always fun - especially when someone else does the cooking. Wink What were the temps during the day and evening like?
BTW - beautiful little girl you have.

This time of year, the tempratures are very nice. About 20-32 C throughout the day and night.

The cook is our friend Jonathan, who seems to enjoy cooking, and would not let any of us near the fire. Except Hessa to help him!

All of the photos are gorgeous, Saeed you have a very scenic interior! The camping trip looks like it was a good time for all.

Are there any fossils in the rocks?

Thank you for posting this - I enjoyed the pictures and the narrative.

I have been lucky in my friends, and lucky to have found this web site. The more I visit the more I realize the sense of community.

Liberals believe that criminals are just like them and guns cause crimes. Conservatives believe criminals are different and that it is the criminals that cause crimes. Maybe both are right and the solution is to keep guns away from liberals.

Great pictures Saeed! Looks like you had a great time. 20 - 32 deg does sound pretty good. Today was the warmest day so far this year here...about 15 deg. Tomorrow is forcast for 19 deg!

Best regards,
Chris
