Thank you for supporting the NRA 2.0 slate. I am in the thick of things as I'm part of that slate.

I am one of only two candidates who are on the ballot by both petition and by the Nominating Committee. I am still scratching my head over that latter as I have been an outspoken critic of the Old Guard aka the Cabal.

My wife and I both mailed in our ballots yesterday.

Wife and I both voted for qualified (in our opinion) nominees, including John Richardson and would encourage other voting members to do the same.

I want to thank Karl and Michael for their support. I appreciate it and will do my damnedest to be worthy of their support if I get elected.

John, it would be interesting to hear what the NRA 2.0 slate directors believe in terms of how the organization should be organized and managed going forward, board size, priorities, etc. If that information is set forth somewhere, I apologize and would welcome a link.

Over 40 years ago I joined both the NRA and SCI as a Life Member, when I lived in Texas.

Time went by, and sadly both organizations went down him.

Let us hope NRA 2 does a better job.

I don't think there is one answer to that question. Beyond being committed to accountability, integrity, and transparency, I think there are a number of differing views.

I will give you mine. As to the size of the Board, I am firmly in the camp of reducing the size even if it meant my seat. I think the way to do it is to limit the number elected every year for three years to no more than 8. At the end of three years you will have a board of 25. I would have said 7 but that would have made the board an even number which is unworkable. I am also in favor of a Board of Advisors such as universities have their Board of Visitors. It would help fill out committee assignments and help raise awareness/funds.

I think the focus needs to be on three things: Training especially of all the new gun owners, competition, and advocacy. I am not a competitor but do realize the importance of it.

My focus would be on advocacy. Number one is that the NRA needs to learn to play well with others. Despite their size they are no longer perceived as force in gun rights that they were in the past. If another group at the state level is bringing forth a bill that advances gun rights, support it. They must stop sabotaging bills that were not brought by the NRA!

If the Second Amendment Foundation, GOA, FPC, NSSF, SCI, or another group has a viable lawsuit, either become a co-plaintiff or file amicus briefs. I am starting to finally see that on the litigation side with Joe Greenlee as head of litigation for NRA-ILA.

Finally, we have to find a way to broaden our appeal to the younger cohort and to non-conservative, non-Republicans. I am old enough to remember when you had pro-gun Democrats. Frankly, I don't care if you are gay, straight, confused, pro-life, pro-abortion, or whatever so long as you are pro-Second Amendment to the fullest.

Above all, transparency.

Transparency will be critical to regain the trust of the membership.

Second, reduce the size of the board. It is unworkably large.

Third, continue to fight for our rights, both legislatively and in the courts. And I agree that the fight need not be a go-it-alone affair.

Yes, a board vote can accomplish that. But they have to have the will to do it.

I voted for the 2.0 slate because I agree change is needed.

The NRA is important, but it’s hamstrung by the legacy of the prior board and LaPierre.

If you don’t fix it, it’s going to be more of the same.

I believe change is badly needed and believe change is coming. I have had two visits with Doug Hamlin in the past month, one aover dinner and the other at an event. I asked some pointed questions and he candidly answered all but one, citing ongoing litigation…I get that.
I think a good deal of change will come after the upcoming board elections, but will take one more election cycle to pretty much completely change. I really hope they make a lot of change, I voted for those that I thought could make a difference.
On another note, some have asked if Wayne LaPierre had repaid the money ordered to repay, he has and it is being held in escrow pending appeals.
