Andy,

As I told you initially I think you are screwed as far as getting the items back but it would be fun to unleash Mr. Jackson on this one. I'll definitely contribute to the effort if you choose to move forward on this and not just because you are a client but because the law just is not appopriate in your case.

hate to start a war between clearing agents but i consistently use John Meehan at Fauna & Flora and in bring an elephant over December of 2007 he made me aware of all i needed to do and i had no problem. i find F&F consistently forthright in all kinds of issues like this one.

but copy EVERYONE! this guy, his boss, his boss's boss... and so on. A phone call goes a LONG way with your congressman, make sure you reach a paid staffer and not a page or intern and let them know you're writing and want a response. Send it return receipt. On the other hand, $1,200 is cheap. That's less than a day of lawyer time.

Good luck

A great big thank you to everyone who has offered to assist with the legal fees to recover my trophies from Fish and Wildlife, the generosity of the folks on this forum never fails to amaze me. beer I am most humbled.

When we returned from a trip to visit family for the holidays I had a big packet that was sent certified mail from Fish and Wildlife waiting on me. It pissed me off more than ever. I have decided to have John Jackson take the case and fight them on this. Mr. Jackson thinks that it is important to win this and set a precedent. According to him I am the first hunter to have trophies from an Appendix II species seized under Fish and Wildlife's new rules. Maybe if we are successful if will prevent this from happening to someone else.

So, here is what I am thinking. I don't want to just take everyone's money. The legal fees are roughly $1,200. There are 4 sjamboks that have been seized, that means the cost of recovering, if successful, is about $300 apiece. I was thinking that if you guys want to donate and we could raise $300 and we are successful we could put the names of everyone that donated in a hat and pull out a name and that person would get a genuine Zambian sjambok carved from my Luangwa River hippo. Likewise if we raised half the money and were successful I'd give 2 of the sjamboks to the cause. If for some reason giving the sjamboks away is illegal then I guess they would just show up mysteriously at the door of the winner. Wink

What do you think?

Andy

Good Idea and I'm in... but, I'd vote to send the excess to the NRA-ILA or even the AR Forums. You have a great team here behind you. Success in a precedent case is VERY important. Make checks payable to??? and mail to???

As your signature states... it's time to slit throats
