 This is the first buffalo I have shot, less than 100 yards from the camp at Deka! We followed these bulls all afternoon, they led us back to the waterhole by the camp. Rene and her kids, Alan and Diana, were watching the buffalo having a drink, when all hell broke loose by my shot! The bull ran back into the bush a few yards, wher I was able to give him another shot.  Second buffalo. As you can see neither me or Roy had improved with age!  First elephant. You can see young Alan Vincent and his family perched on the elephant. Both were shot with a second hand rifle I bought in a gunshop in Seattle, Washington. It was a REmington Safari 375 H&H. Ammo used was Winchester 300 grain FLJ.  Our rifles are packed and ready to go on our next hunt. The magic is still alive, especially when you share it with the same friends. Cool pics! Why was the first rifle a left hand action and the current two rifles right hand action? My first safari rifle was a Remington Safari in 375 left hand. It was very accurate but the bull barrel that they used back then made it pretty heavy. The rifle was not left handed. The photo is a scan from a slide, and it was scanned the wrong way around. The man in shorts is not Walter, it was someone working at the camp. The man with his back to the photo is Roy. The little kid you see only half of is Alan. The little girls is his sister Diana, and the other girl was my girlfriend at the time. | |||

Saeed, What a huge elephant bull and nice pair of buffalo bulls for a first DG safari! Do you recall the trophy fees and daily rates of 28 years ago? Is that Rene and your girl friend sitting on top of the elephant with the Vincent kids? All so young and beautiful. Hopefully we all improve in some ways, beyond mere beauty, with age. Those are wonderful old pictures. One thing that really struck me is Diana with no shoes on. I don't think that little girl ever wore shoes back then! Saeed, you should take a picture of Rene from back then on your trip. You know what kind of comments Roy would make about it! | |||

That hunt was quite funny. I had a Remington factory rifle, which took 2 in the magazine, and one in the chamber. I found that by trying a bit hard, I can get 3 in the magazine and one in the chamber. So having heard how tough buffalo were, I made sure I had enough ammo in my rifle. I had it all worked it out before hand - I was going to keep shooting until that bull is DEAD! And as sometimes happen, whatever was planned did not pan out. I made sure of my first shot - you can see the bullet hole on the buffalo. As soon as the rifle went off, all hell broke loose. The magazine bottom opened, and all my ammo fell out! I was trying to load another round, closing the magazine bottom, and running at the same time! Luckily the bull did not go more than afew yards and stopped with his head down, and Roy was shouting "DON't RUN AFTER WOUNDED BUFFALO!" Sadly, Roy is one of those who does not follow his own advice. 28 years later, we STILL run after wounded buffalo  | |||
