I found this list of Non-Importables this morning on Conde Nast Traveler. Look at South Africa's supposed list. Whats up with these items. If you stand at a Customs Booth in the airport these items stream by like a river.

South Africa
Ivory is legally sold within the country but is illegal to export and illegal to import into the United States. Elephant populations are dwindling dangerously in Africa, so don't buy anything with elephant skins, including handbags, wallets, belts, bags, bound books, and footstools made from elephant feet. Avoid items with crocodile or snake skins (especially python and cobra); taxidermy products made with crocodile; and rugs, place mats, drums, coasters, and cushions of lion, jackal, leopard, or zebra skin. Don't buy ostrich eggs or ostrich leather products; mako shark tooth necklaces; mounted insects; and picture frames or lampshades made with porcupine quills. Rare shells, coral, and carved hippo teeth should also be left behind.

Someone should email Sallie Brady and enlighten her. Never ceases to amaze me how people will babble on about something like it is a recital of facts and they have no idea what they are saying....or it this case writing.

Sounds like her personal opinion to me..."don't buy this or that"...I laughed about the ostrich shell. I missed the news flash that said ostriches are no longer laying eggs. Must be all of that global warming... Roll Eyes

She left out that it was OK with the Follywood types to buy faux skin, fin, fur and feather. It looks good on the faux people that live above the rest of us. popcorn

"Peace is that brief glorious moment in history when everybody stands around reloading" - Thomas Jefferson

Every morning the Zebra wakes up knowing it must outrun the fastest Lion if it wants to stay alive. Every morning the Lion wakes up knowing it must outrun the slowest Zebra or it will starve. It makes no difference if you are a Zebra or a Lion; when the Sun comes up in Africa, you must wake up running......

"If you're being chased by a Lion, you don't have to be faster than the Lion, you just have to be faster than the person next to you."

She is either terribly misinformed or pushing her opinion as law for rest of us.

I have many of the things on the list as well.

I clicked on the "CONTACT US" tab and sent them an e-mail letting them know that Sallie Brady should spend some time getting factual information instead of populating her list with her personal beliefs.

Be nice if some of the rest of you did the same.
