I'm looking for advice on the best time to hunt Zim for Leopard. An outfitter at the DSC show told me the end of July and 1st of August was best. I don't recall the reasoning though. I have read recently that April and May are good months to get leopard on bait. What are the best months and why. John Weaver

April and May are normally best. Game is hard to find for the cats and therefore they come to bait easier. 465H&H

John, I like May/June but I book them around the Warthog "hatch." Too many piggies mean Mr. Spots doesn't come to bait too well. I'm headed that way myself next year. i've hunted spots every month from march to september, & like early june/late may the best. we always had more hits on the baits then, prey is a bit more scatter out then so the cats are moving, and its early season, the hunting seasons have just started so game isn't as spooky as it is latter in the year. My best advice is that if you want a big cat, it's probably going to take more than 1 trip. Some get lucky, some don't, took me 54 days to find one that i wanted

John, What may be equally or more important than dates is to hunt with a good cat guy. Not everyone is equal in this respect. With a litte research you can find safari companys offering 90% success on mature toms. These are the guys to book with. Make sure to ask the range of sizes to expect and do they shoot females. As for good dates the company offering 90% success obviously does pretty well throughout the season. Mark MARK H.
