Do PH’s carry rifles on photographic safaris? I’m very sorry to hear this. Godspeed.

Was thinking along same lines, does anyone, PH or hunter, carry a rifle when venturing outside of immediate camp confines in dangerous game territory? Terrible way to lose ones life.

I have been on tours in parks over the years. In the 90's they ALL carried guns. I took my wife a couple of years back. The first thing I noticed is that the guides did NOT carry guns. The guy who got killed by a lion in Zimbabwe while guiding a walking tour had a gun but was apparently was not willing to use it after the Cecil debacle. Is this true of all of them? No idea.

We were in Kenya on a photo safari. We went walking with whole bunch of women and children. A one eyed game scout was with us, carrying a 416 Rigby! I said to him, if something goes wrong, give me the rifle. He agreed. Luckily we had a great day walking.

Ha ha I bet you were kicking sand in every animals face to get something to go wrong. Would have only been a pile of dead animals to photograph if you had been let loose with that 416 Saeed

Actually, the last thing I wanted on that outing was something go wrong. I had my family, and two other families with kids with us. That was the whole point of taking them for a walk, rather than in a car, through the bush. They loved it.
