Extremely sad news coming in that good friend and long time PH Simon Burgess was tragically killed by a berserk elephant whilst checking a borehole outside of camp.

Simon was a British army officer and a true gentleman. So tragic that his life should be taken by a freak accident.

RIP friend and will see you on the otherside.

Sorry to hear about that.

I lost two guys from Covid this week. Both mid-50's and overweight. At least he died with his boots on instead of killed by the China Virus.

Condolences on the loss of your friend Andrew.

On the plains of hesitation lie the bleached bones of ten thousand, who on the dawn of victory lay down their weary heads resting, and there resting, died.

Or walk with Kings - nor lose the common touch...
Yours is the Earth and everything that's in it,
And - which is more - you'll be a Man, my son!

I am terribly sorry to hear this sad news.

Death by misadventure is always a harsh, sudden and awful thing.

May his friends and family find solace in their lasting memories.

Damn! Andrew, It scared me when I heard the name Simon because my first thought was Simon Eldredge my old PH in the Luangwa valley's upper Lupande. I didn't know the PH killed but may he rest in peace, and find the hunting good in heaven.

Seems this not an uncommon event in camps where ele are habituated to people stroll frequently through them. I love ele and love to view them. I don’t trust them with my life however and am cautious around them.

Such unfortunate news, saddened to read it. My thoughts go out to his family. As tragic as it is, a better way to go than wasting away in a hospital bed.
