FrostbitePermits
Got this email today. I presume this is not going to make any difference in regards to my Elephant permit applied for 6 years ago.

K EvansI don't think it will make any difference as to when/if your permit is approved, but I think that if you sign up you will be able to track the movement/non-movement of your application. A couple of months, out of the blue, I received a couple of emails from USFWS regarding elephant permit applications I filed (at least two other AR members received the same type email), the emails provided reference numbers and I could see where and when the permits had moved between "sections" of USFWS. I think this ePermits program will allow you to do the same. I'll sign up for this.

L. David KeithMan, this has been a goat roping! Signed up for USF&W web site; problems from the start. Then they advise new epermit site. Sign up but can't access my own account. Forget getting help. 19 months out and still no Bontebok permit yet they cashed my check for $100. Now they advise a new website to be handled by a third party (good way to get hacked). Sign in after multiple attempts; then no access to my personal account which I just created. Nightmare from day one. Emails go unanswered, or answered with more BS/lies. USF&W is broken, severely broken. Wonder if China Joe can fix it? Holding my breath. LDK

p dog shooterSame thing with the NF system permit web site.
The first month of the roll was so screwed up.
They canceled all the permits issued and every one had to start over.
Even after a couple of years they are F up.
It was interesting that looks like an official government site. It is contracting company that real doesn't not have the power to do anything.
We made a mistake but we don't have the power to fix it

Victor WatsonWe moved to an e-permit system in SA a few years ago. There were a few initial problems but for the most part it works well for me. I prefer it, there's a trail of transactions and clear instructions as to what documents the system requires to approve permits. Turnaround time is down to 48 hours on the most basic level of permits. We had a message from the USFW head at our PHASA AGM. She seemed to be committed to approving the permitting system and also seemed to have an understanding of the link between hunting and conservation. She was Trump appointed, hope she's still there. I hope the system improves going forward.

I have been trying to get someone to answer a question about remaining hides from a tuskless cow I took in 2013 (pre approval).
I started off a the local USFW where I clear my trophies. They were not 100% sure of the process and suggested I contact the DC office (gave me a number and email).
I have left 3 voicemails and sent 3 emails over the course of the last two without nothing but an automated reply. Tad frustrating.

K EvansI would bet you won’t be able to bring any elephant “parts” into the US, legally, due to the ongoing elephant import permit lawsuit and the current USFWS policy. But I could be wrong, and wish I was.

MARK H. YOUNGHutty,
My understanding is that no part of a tuskless was ever importable.

In the past, I believe any part of any elephant , regardless of sex, was importable if the country of origin had CITES quota and issued an export permit, but as usual, I could be wrong.
Karl Evans
I had items made from the tuskless and was given CITIES permit and was able to import but this was back in 2013. Who knows what the rules are now.

RookhawkIgnoring the illegality of USFWS not processing any elephant applications for the time being, I think there is a missing part to the "Can I import a tuskless" question.
The African nation has two types of quota. Trophy exportable quota and non-trophy non-exportable management quota.
So for example, you shoot two 25lb elephant in Zim. One was killed on a trophy elephant license where they had CITES export quota as a nation, for that region, for that concession, and for your permit. The other was a non-trophy hunt. The former animal can be exported, the latter animal cannot. It is doubtful that an African nation or a PH is going to let you consume a $10,000 (their cost) trophy elephant tag for you to consume it on a tuskless or non-trophy bull hunt. Because that exportable tag is expensive and rare, something they hold back for a $45,000 paying customer that is hunting really big elephant whereas their $4000-$6000 non-trophy non-exportable tag can be sold for a hunt that may only cost $14,000.

Russ GouldCan you believe that to run a background check (NICS) you have to use Edge ... Chrome does not work? But to update your login and pw, something you have to do every 3 months, Edge does not work either, you have to use Firefox?
And to apply for an import permit for firearms, if you make an error or if it's denied for any one of a number of silly reasons, you can't change the application? You must withdraw it and start over.
Just examples of the eternal dilemma:
1. Government will fail you every time
2. Government is a leaky bucket
3. Government is corrupt
4. Government is a necessary evil
What is the answer then? There are 2 answers.
1. Keep government as small as possible .. it should fit in a shoebox.
2. Keep government as local as possible .. as envisioned by our founders. We don't need any one-size-fits-none federal meddling.
Right now we need to heed this big time.

L. David KeithOh the fun never ends with USF&W. I signed up for the latest goat roping only to be instructed that I had to pick an application app in order to have a secondary back up log in (Dog & Pony show). After going through multiple steps, I discovered my USF&W account wasn't linked to the new e-permits fiasco. Went to my USF&W account and couldn't log in; that's the usual SNAFU. After entering multiple passwords, I gave them one to really tell them how I feel; once again, couldn't sign in to my own account. Either this bunch is totally run by anti-hunting vegans or robots have taken over the service. Again, unable to navigate insanity. LDK
BTW; There have been zero Bontebok permits issued over the last four years. They take your money and ignore you. Someone should file a class action lawsuit, there is no excuse for this, none.
