LDK/Charl, I'm not picking here but just genuinely curious, so sorry if this is a daft Question. The Greater Kruger National Park, is that a part of what is referred to as the Kruger? and if so is it an unfenced portion within the parks bounaries? I've always felt that these types of hunts are underestimated due to the stigma attached to hunting DG in RSA in some circles, but assuming that the animals are naturally breeding in the wild and free ranging then they look like good value. Best regards FB | |||

FB/Robert, I'll defer to Charl when he returns from hunting. He lives there and knows current details better than I. I do know some animals get off the Park and whoever's land they move on can request a permit to allow temporary hunting (to which most call a PH and sell the permit) but there are some regs that allow hunting/culling on the Park out of necessity. Rules and laws change so quickly in RSA, we're best to allow Charl to give the current scoop. I've notified him to read this post ASAP. Good hunting, David PS: As to hunting DG in RSA, a lot depends upon the PH/Outfitter as to the quality and integrity of the hunt. Unfortunately, some animals (by law) must be confined within high fence and or electric fencing. Liability for a rampaging Elephant would be in the stratosphere if left unchecked. However, I've been on small ranches (25,000 acres) and couldn't locate a herd of Buffalo, just out of simple curiosity. Sign everywhere, but they remained tight in the bush. These so called tame Buffalo have killed unlucky persons, including experienced PH's. No, it's not the same and tracking a herd in the Selous, and most reasonably healthy Hunter's should get a Buff within 3-5 days, but not everyone can afford a 10 day hunt in Tanz or Zambia, and some can't cover the same ground they could 20 years ago. So for those Hunters, I'm glad to see them make a dream come true, and respect their hunt no matter where the bull was standing when the trigger was pulled. As long as it is an ethical hunt, I will never judge them or think less of their trophy. L. David Keith, That was very well said. Thanks for eloquently and accurately wording my thoughts. I agree that as long as the hunt was ethical, the place, nor the height of the fence and definately not the size of the enclosure matters one bit. [I also acknowledge that for each species and habitat type there is some, difficult to define, limiting size of enclosure in which ethical hunting is not possible.] In good hunting. Gentleman, thank for the replies and the inquiries. I have asked David from GG Hunting Safaris to field any questions and pass them on to me, as we were in the bush hunting for the last two weeks. We had great fun, and my English client wished to do a bit of camping "ol" style, so we roughed it for a couple of days, and had great fun. Back to the buff hunt. Hunting area is in the Balule conservancy that is part of the Greater Kruger National Park. The only fence is the OUTSIDE boundary of the park that is 2.57 Million acres big. Only dugga boys are hunted. Big herds off 100 Buff have been seen at the end of the season. Free roaming as it gets. The fence is to keep the humans out. THIS IS NOT A GAME RANCH HUNT. Please let me know as soon as possible. www.infinito-safaris.com Charl van Rooyen Owner Infinito Travel Group www.infinito-safaris.com charl@infinito-safaris.com Cell: +27 78 444 7661 Tel: +27 13 262 4077 Fax:+27 13 262 3845 Hereford Street 28A Groblersdal 0470 Limpopo R.S.A.
