Taken in the Lunga Luswishi concession. Note the two shots in the shoulder which failed to put this cat down.

PH Richard Bell Cross spotted this Lion with two others (male and female) on an island in the Kafue. Taking off their trousers and boots they waded across the river and were repeatedly charged by the female whilst in the water. They shot the Lion whilst standing in the water.

All shots visible here were too high and had little effect on this cat.

I suspect this is a first.

The madam was ferried across by boat and the client and PH put their trousers back on for the photo session.

It was all too easy and the first timer put a deposit down for another Lion next year and will be bringing his waders.

Very nice cat!!!

Beautiful cat! I think it was Capstick who said that lions look verminous after they've been shot but leopards all look like they just came from the cleaners. Whoever said it, they were right.

Should PH's carry some shampoo and a blow dryer in the car? Wink

Nice lion. The photographer and everybody involved should be commended for cleaning up the blood from the three shots. Well done, and that nice looking young lady (who looks much older than Andrew's wife) has a real trophy of a husband. With the facial expressions of hunter and madam, it certainly cries out for a caption. Can anyone offer something?

5 shots Bwana.

My caption would not go down well with Saeed, but what about 'who needs a Ferrari?'

I know this is off color and I will probably be banned for posting but the picture reminds me of the banter between Johnny Carson and Zsa Zsa Gabor on the Tonight Show. Zsa Zsa comes out on the stage with a Persian cat in her arms and sits down in the chair next to Carson's desk. In her thick accent she asks "Johnny, would you like to pet my p_$$y?" Carson smiles at her and quips "I'd love to but you will have to move your cat!" Lord I apologize....

Rhyme of the Sheep Hunter
May fordings never be too deep, And alders not too thick; May rock slides never be too steep And ridges not too slick.
And may your bullets shoot as swell As Fred Bear's arrow's flew; And may your nose work just as well As Jack O'Connor's too.
May winds be never at your tail When stalking down the steep; May bears be never on your trail When packing out your sheep.
May the hundred pounds upon you Not make you break or trip; And may the plane in which you flew Await you at the strip.

I like the looks of that lion. Given the first couple of high shoulder shots, I wonder if the island location helped keep the lion around for follow ups. When hit badly like that, they can and will run a long way.

Weird looking Kafue Lechwe...can not see horns at all!

The most terrifying sound to a PH is the sound of a tent zipper whilst he is in the tent with the client's wife....

Richard said that one of the shots (not seen here) disabled the cat. The shots that can be seen were trying to finish it off. Note the scope had taken a knock and all shots were 6 inches high at 50 yards.

This island is a few miles upstream and probably dry by now.
