Just passing along, maybe somebody on the forum is in position to jump on this. Buzz is hunting in Chewore North now for ele, and was asked by Ian to try to find somebody to fill this hunt for him. What is "special" IMO is that this is a lion tag available THIS YEAR in a quality and well-managed big game concession, with a top PH, and with enough notice for the hunter to prepare. Comparatively speaking, Zimbabwe still offers the cheapest lion hunts. I am assuming that it is a cancellation with deposit refunded. Last I had heard, there were 2 (3?) lion tags in Chewore North and Ian said they were always booked 2+ years out. The hippo and buffalo will obviously be for lion bait, although "tracking" the lion may be possible which is great fun. I hunted Chewore North in 2004 and it is an awesome area - scenic, rugged, remote..one of, if not my most favorite. If unfamiliar, do a search on "Chewore North" and you will get lots of hits from others who have and are hunting there.

There were a few videos done in Chewore over the years, and I recall one exceptional lion being shot in "Trophy Quest - Lions of the Zambezi Valley". This is available from Outdoor Visions for $40 (Outdoor Visions) and is one of the better quality, earlier generation videos in my opinion, as it includes some good background info on the Zambezi Valley in addition to a lot of excellent footage.

I've been right there a couple of times at the top of the Gorge. It is a very special place as is Chewore.

The hunt you advertised could be very good as Barrie Duckworth hunts Chewore South and his clients have had 100% opportunities on mature lions the last four years and he's killed some real beauts there.

I must say it would be tough to beat that price in any area that really provided a viable chance at a lion.

I have hunted with Ian Gibson twice out of this camp. If you want true "wild" Africa, this is it. Ian is a great PH and knows this area well. Big5 has one of the nicest camps in Zim and it just doesn't get much better.

I can't make it to Africa in 2006 for various reasons, but I am keeping my fingers crossed that Big5 keeps this concession for 2007 because I will be headed back to this camp (to hunt with Ian) if they do.

The hunt was purchased by a client of Myles. Buzz said that there were many lions in the area and they heard them calling most every night. So hopefully this guy will connect with a big one. If I get picts, I'll post. Thanks.

That's a great pict Tim, the way the front end of the Cruiser is up in the air, you must have a big Buf in the back! Before reading the PS in your post, I figured Ian named the truck after you!

I'm salivating. Shumba, we are IN for '07 if the rumor mill is to be trusted.

That is Ian Gibson on the right. We were VERY FAR AWAY from camp out looking for buffalo. We came across an eland and our priorities changed. After getting the eland loaded up, Ian said we had a long drive (2.5 to 3 hours) back to camp. Since it was hot, he wanted to head back as soon as possible to get the eland processed.

About 20 minutes into our trip back to camp, I spotted two zebra. I think Ian actually saw them but did not want to tell me. Now, I really wanted a zebra since I did not get one on my previous safari with Ian (none left on quota back then). We had tracked a few zebra the night before, but did not connect. So now I really wanted a zebra and it seemed to be a pretty easy stalk.

Ian said that we did not have time and plus, the Landcruiser was full with an eland, 2 trackers, a game scout, a PH, and me. I told him I really wanted that zebra right now and he started cursing at me. Somewhere in those words I heard Ian say "just get out and shoot the bloody thing". So I did.

Here is the result:

Tim that is classic, and sounds like vintage Gibson!!! I hope the hunt works out next year for you and Mark, Big5 runs a good [fun] camp and by all accounts takes excellent care of the concession.

That Eland was enormous!!! I have a picture of it hanging at the skinning shed, and I swear all stretched out, it was every bit of 12 feet long!

What's amazing is how fast, and how high those monsters can jump. I'd definatley like to add one to my list Shumba.
