I very much doubt the heaviest of the two tusks will make 25lbs and the minimum for TZ is around 45lbs or 1.60m for at least one of the tusks to meet the legal requirements. This bull is not a shooter.

Most of the bulls I have seen recently in the Selous, bar two, were similar to the one posted; some smaller and some slightly heavier. Of the two that qualified I would say one was marginally legal on length whereas the other was a definite shooter at a probable 50lbs but over the 1.60m required.

Great photos. That lone buffalo looks impressive. I cannot imagine the abuse that the Toyota Land Cruiser must have endured over the years.

We spent the day at the Lake.

Only small crocs at the bait as the hippo skin hasn’t broken yet.

Roy shot a warthog kongoni and reedbuck

Maktoum shot two buffalo

Maktoum shot two buffalo yesterday, not one.

Late in the day so they left them and came back.

Left this morning to recover them.

We were heading to the lake to our croc bait, and got diverted when we saw two very old dugga boys.

Roy shot both.

Back in camp and we are taking it easy for the day.

Another super reedbuck!

And two ancient buff as well. Love those old bulls.

It is so odd to see so much surface water.

The new Selous.

Thanks as always for sharing.

The entire ecosystem has been affected by this mass of water which creates convection currents
causing localized adverse weather phenomena, producing clouds and precipitation.

We are talking in terms of a man-made lake measuring approx. 75kms x 25kms which has gobbled around 30% of the western side of the Selous Game Reserve.

Fantastic pair of old Dugga boys, especially the smooth one. And that Reedbuck! Roy enjoyed a stellar day.

Interesting how much the lake has come up since last year, not much left for it to top the spillway. I’m looking forward to seeing where Alan locates the 2nd camp now that the lake is essentially full. It should be a great addition. I have to think some massive crocs will be taken in future years.

Pierre is right.

It is more of a comedy show than hunting.

We manage to shoot some animals is a great surprise to all of us.

We wish you were here Pierre!

I bet your ears are ringing.

We remember some of the hilarious incidents happening at your camp! rotflmo

I see the heavy equipment picture; how is the new airstrip coming along? How much farther will it be from camp?

You got a croc! Cool photos.
That hyena does not seem to fear the crocs.

Unusually straight horns on that bushbuck.
https://malagarasiriver.com/2024/tan241678.jpg

The earlier one had one straight horn also.

A lot less spiral than the ones in South Africa.

Had a very easy day today.

Unlike yesterday when spent ages tracking buffalo and got nothing.

Saw a very old bull feeding, went after him and shot him.

On the way to camp found a kudu bull and shot him too.

Back to camp for lunch.

Good to see the young breeding herds of elephant!

Kind of sad to see the tuskless matriarchs leading the herds as the rest of her age were poached.

Great photos. Amazing to see a small puddle supporting such a large number of animals.

What you see as a small puddle is actually a spring that will continue dribbling clean water and maintain the flow throughout the season.

I noticed in our bordering concession to the north of Madaba that the game preferred watering from the numerous springs that have "blossomed" due to a rise in the water table than the stagnant muddy waterholes formed by the past rains.

Makes sense fulvio. Again good to see sizeable breeding herds of elephant, if young, and young bulls.

What Vulvio said is correct.

Springs everywhere that keep seeping out.

And a lot more elephants are seen this year than on previous occasions.

Our last hunting day yesterday.

Nisse finally managed to get a buffalo.

I shot a zebra.

Today we have our shooting contest for the camp staff.

An event they all look forward to, and proves entertainment for all involved!

I do have lots more photos, and videos to post once I am home.

As usual, everyone had a great safari.

Newcomers were initiated into the funny side of hunting.

And the hardships that go with it.

The heat and tse tse flies, snakes, scorpions, Siafu ants, and never forget some rather uncouth characters here, who made sure no one was immune to sufferings! rotflmo

Sometimes I am not sure what the camp crews think of this lot.

Some have actually come out straight and asked "who are we going to laugh at next week?"

I am not sure what to think of this.

When the camp crew think we are all a bloody JOKE!

The fantastic photos of little insects are by Maktoum and Gary.

There is no doubt that any other safari compared to yours will be as boring to them as watching grass grow! Cool Big Grin Cool

Congrats on another great one.

I was asked to post more details about Madaba.

Madaba is one of the major rivers in Tanzania.

Our camp is situated on its bank.

Not much water in the river, except in a few places where pools are above the surface.

They are fed by underground streams.

The area is very big, and we have not been able to hunt much of it.

Much water is found in pools all over the concession.

Much more than last year.

Last year we did not see much eland or zebra activity.

This year we saw them, or their fresh tracks, every day.

Lots of lone dugga boys, sometimes in groups of up to 5.

The group of 5 live close to the camp, and Alan avoids shooting them.

You see some pictures of them from the air I have posted.

I was not able to answer any questions while there, so if anyone has any please ask and I will be happy to answer.

You can add to the above with "more elephants"?
