I'm also wondering what "protective corners" you're talking about. Mine don't have any, nor the different ones I've used in the military. Do you have a picture of what you mean?

Harry,

I have used the Heavy-Duty gun case from Cabelas for years without trouble. I think they are very good. The best I have used so far.. But actually I like the Tuffpack. I would try one for sure if it wasnt for European regulations. They say that when travelling by plane you have to seperate your gun from the bolt and ammo. Thus you need a guncase AND another case for your bolt/ammo. This way there are no advantages using a Tuffpack because you need another bag for ammo/bolt + clothing etc anyway. That is unfortunate, but I dont think they are going to change regulations regarding this..

I am too dumb to post pictures on this site but if you will look at the enlarged photo on the case 4 less site listed above and Pelican travel vault (the people that branded it for Browning) you will see the little protective corners sticking out. One or more of mine were broken off after Tanzania....no damage to guns....nor interior of case...just the outside corner protectors that are molded in.
Look...as I have said before...there are many good cases and I have a few in my storeroom but....the weight factor on most of the other cases is what kills you plus what all you can put in a Tuffpak. Weight and volume are the two things that kill you on the other cases.
Now...as to having to keep bolt and ammo apart from rest of firearm. I have my ammo (could put bolt inside too) in a metal lockable box (metal cash box from office supply store) and that locked metal box goes inside and at bottom of my locable Tuffpak.
So far so good...I do not have ammo with gun as ammo is locked in a metal box which just happens to be inside the case where my gun is. Two different containers and both lock.
Nobody has given me fits over it yet and if so...I will just stick a shipping label on the ammo and send it as another pc. of baggage.
