A word of advice. Don't get to hung up on Horns. Just enjoy the Hunt. I got my 1st Buff last year in Tanzania. After 5 days of hunting and 3 1/2 miles of tracking we got in position to look over a herd that was laying down resting. The herd had 2 shootable Bulls that we could see. After laying on the backside of a termite mond in the sun for an hour and fifteen minutes I convinced the ph to let me take the shot at a 36" bull that was laying down facing me. The .416 400 gr A-Frame hit just to the left of the brain. It knocked him out for about 2 seconds. As he got up I gave him a solid in the lung area. We folloed the blood trail for about 300 yards and jumped him in the heavy cover. Two solids from my .470 put him down in heavy cover out of sight. We waited abd heard the death bellow. When we approached him he was dead. We were hunting two on one and in 5 more days of hunting we never got another shot at a Buffalo. Had I passed on that I would have came home empty handed. I may shoot another Buffalo some day, but I doubt it will be more of a trophy than my 1st one no matter how big the Horns are. Here again just my .02 cents worth.

I would also suggest getting the latest Sports Afield and reading Kevin Robertsons article and pictures. It will help a lot but what it really comes down to is if your PH says shoot that one its what you do. Just be sure of your placement.

IMHO
Buff are like women, everybody likes something a little different but we all like women, (most of us)I do agree to a point that size does not matter. Shape to me is the real prize but a 34" bull with nice shape is not a shooter.

For me a woman of 34" is quite OK, provided she needs a "D" cup bra! Big Grin

I wonder how small it must be before size does start mattering? Maybe at <4" it does start to matter? Big Grin

But on a serious note: The quality of the hunt - that is everything up to making the decision to shoot or not - matters more that the age, character, shape and size in that order!

In good hunting.

Record books aside any buffalo is a good buffalo as long as it looks like you owe him money ! clap

That buffalo with the heavy boss that Rudi likes so much I would have that in my house anytime !

I always try to use enough gun but then sometimes a brainshot works just as good.
