Hi, I'm new to the forums although have been reading for a while. Last fall my wife and I made our first Safari for plains game in Namibia and were very successful and are now hooked. 2 weeks ago my wife purchased a 7 day plains game safari in South Africa which we'll take in Aug 08 bringing our children 18-23 as observers. After putting them back on the plane in Joburg we were planning 2 weeks in Zimbabwe for Cape Buffalo and Leopard.

Given the current situation in Zimbabwe we were wondering of other options. The PH we used in Namibia-Fritz Nolte sometimes has consessions in the Caprivi but for now seems more interested in booking his 07 openings. Anyone have any thoughts?

Also-if any moderators read this post how to I change my display name-it should read "Brillo"

Thanks,

CB

Africa is full of great hunting destinations for the species you mention. Most of the the Dangerous Game hunting we offer is in Tanzania but as I said, there are plenty of destinations for you to choose from.......I'd suggest one of the first decisions you need to make is whether you want to hunt in a true wilderness area or whether you'd prefer a fenced area such as you'd find in South Africa for example.....

My vote would be for Zambia. I hunted with John DuPlooy's Muchinga Adventures in the northern Luangwa Valley and had a super hunt taking two buff, hippo and croc. I was immediately followed by AR members SBT and 3006. SBT took a super lion... 3006 a very nice tom leopard! Others on this Forum like BillC have hunted with Peter Chipman and have great things to say about him, also. The hunting is excellent and it was easy to get in and out of Zambia, almost as easy as Tanzania. Check out these threads....

On the plains of hesitation lie the bleached bones of ten thousand, who on the dawn of victory lay down their weary heads resting, and there resting, died.

Or walk with Kings - nor lose the common touch...
Yours is the Earth and everything that's in it,
And - which is more - you'll be a Man, my son!

bwanarm,

I recommended Tanzania with Tanzania Bundu Safaris to CB since I know Johnnie is completely sold out in Zambia through '08. Otherwise he would definitely be one of my top choices and you know the Luangwa is one of my favorite spots on the continent.

I will hunt Zimbabwe again this year for buffalo but it's hard to beat Tanzania if you've never been there, especially the Selous reserve.

I would plan on Zim but have a backup plan. Zim has a tremendous Leopard population and good Buff in some areas. If you have an Outfitter that hunts more countries than Zim, set up an alternate plan. I was there in February and had no problems, but could be the end of the Bozo show in the future. I'm returning next year for Leopard, Buff and Sable. If it's hit the fan: Plan B Smiler Zambia! Good hunting, LDK

Every morning the Zebra wakes up knowing it must outrun the fastest Lion if it wants to stay alive. Every morning the Lion wakes up knowing it must outrun the slowest Zebra or it will starve. It makes no difference if you are a Zebra or a Lion; when the Sun comes up in Africa, you must wake up running......

Bwanamrm hit the nail on the head. Zambia is a fantastic place for both Leopard and Buff. Sadly, Mark is also correct, Muchinga is sold out for 2008. You might contact them however, and get on a cancellation list though they seldom experience such.
