This seems to be a "growing pains" issue. Namibia was until recently, often overlooked as a hunting destination, and it seems some hungry operators saw an opportunity to take advantage of the rather loose permit requirements- basically over the counter leopard and cheetah permits, and took a lot of animals. Good for NAPHA and the Ministry for being proactive on this. It may be bad news in the short run, but good for long term prospects. Namibia seems to be small enough and free enough of big money interests to act on principle regarding hunting issues. My take is a "golden era" in Namibia is closing, primarily due to increased interest in this very attractive hunting environment- -very easy entry and exit with firearms -very small airport for hassle free travel -vast expanses of hunting areas with a variety of terrain and great opportunity on all species -very skilled home grown professional hunters -extensive owner-PH hunting areas keeping prices low for natives species -excellent race relations and low crime by African hunting destination standards ______________________________ "Are you gonna pull them pistols,...or whistle Dixie??" +1 Brett DRSS Life Member SCI Life Member NRA Life Member WSF Rhyme of the Sheep Hunter May fordings never be too deep, And alders not too thick; May rock slides never be too steep And ridges not too slick. And may your bullets shoot as swell As Fred Bear's arrow's flew; And may your nose work just as well As Jack O'Connor's too. May winds be never at your tail When stalking down the steep; May bears be never on your trail When packing out your sheep. May the hundred pounds upon you Not make you break or trip; And may the plane in which you flew Await you at the strip. -Seth Peterson | |||
