If I am not mistaken it was removed from the tender allocation as the bid was not sufficient. It is currently still in the hands of ZAWA and is due to be re tendered soon.

Hopefully it has not fallen into the "depleted area" category and thus the low bid price.

Not at all and the previous operator Richard Bell Cross pumped many thousands of dollars into this concession and he still funds anti poaching here.

It is one of the many concessions still in limbo but will soon go to tender again.

Nobody knows this area better than Richard and Andrew, and I'm positive no foreign hunter has hunted this GMA more than me! It would be a terrible shame for it to fall into the hands of anyone other than my boy Richie, he loves and cares for the place as if he owned it himself.

I've never seen a hunting block with greater game densities, never - not in Tanzania, not in the Luangwa, not anywhere!!! It lacks only buffalo in any numbers, but little else! The Luangwa Valley to the east fails hugely when comparing lion/leopard hunting in both places. The Kafue region on average produces much better / big maned lions, and the size of the leopards - its not even close, the Kafue wins hands down! Richard took the all-time Zambian #1 leopard here in 2005 as I recall.

I've seen dozens of sable bulls over 40", as big as 46" IMO in this GMA. It holds its own population of Zambezi Sitatunga (current world record taken by Richard's client) loads of hippo/croc, roan, eland, thousands of impala/puku, some pretty decent elephant bulls, and the list goes on. Its a special place, my favorite in all of Africa - I only hope its returned to the man who truly deserves it!!!

They had better get moving with the tender or it will be too late for 2015.

Lower Lupande has already fielded a good safari.

The last time I hunted Zambia, which was admittedly quite some time ago, the upper, and lower Lupande concessions were crawling with Buffalo, lion and Leopard. Most of the other species as well.

I doubt I'll ever get back to Africa but I'd love to hunt both again. Sort of my old stomping grounds. Kind of like going home.

Thank you everyone for the replies. Is there no buffalo at all in Lunga Luswishi? I am having some trouble finding info about Richard Bell Cross' outfit, if I recall correctly is it Prohuntzambia?

Sir, the cats in Lunga can be exceptional for sure. But, don't be hesitant to talk to Andrew about Royal Kafue, or Lance Higgins about Mushangashi. Both are right next door to Lunga, and share the same game, and the same genetics!!!! Lunga might be much larger in square miles, but like ALL blocks - only a portion of it is really productive.

To date the biggest Lion and Leopard I have ever witnessed in Africa have been in Lunga. The Chamakubi Leopard was often hunted due to his oversized track and once I had him on bait and he was unbelievable in size and stature. However these monster cats were very tricky to hunt indeed.

It was never an easy place to hunt as it was still recovering from years of abuse. But the hunting experience was first class and the area extremely scenic.

By all accounts the Luangwa is still very rich in game.

Note I will be hunting an 85 year old soon and let you know how he gets on. The same old fella who four years ago told me that was to be his last safari.

Cheers

Don't forget the Chamakubi King too!! Rich and I hunted him for 2.5 weeks, we finally game up - he won.

Chamakubi - "Place of Vultures" I don't like that place anymore! Smiler

The Chamakubi King whose track would easily span your hand. Never did manage to get a good look at him.

That's right, we never did! We were hunting him in 2003, before any of us started taking trail cams to Africa.

He was on bait for 2.5 weeks, but of course only showed up to feed when Rich/I did not sit for him. We could have had some great trail cam pics I'm sure of it.

Moses was confident of his enormous size...all I can say is he left mane hairs certainly fit for a "King"!
