I have been reading this forum for years and have noticed that there are many dedicated hunters going after a specific animal year after year. We have dedicated elephant hunters, hardcore buffalo slayers and serious cat hunters. My question addresses both the veterans of African safari and dreamers like me. Which animal calls you to Africa? Although I enjoy reading DG hunt reports, oddly enough none of the DG animals calls me to Africa as passionately as the lowly Kudu does. The price of knowledge is great but the price of ignorance is even greater. | ||

Buffalo keeps me coming back. Elephant next time. But I do love the plains game too. Especially what I don't have -- Sable, Roan, Bushbuck, lesser kudu, and the list goes on. But I'll be back for buffalo again, and again ... | |||

I thought I was odd for having more attraction towards a "common" animal than big ticket DG animals.  Seems like I am not alone.The price of knowledge is great but the price of ignorance is even greater. | |||

Harris, There is nothing "lowly" about a Kudu. Read Hemingway's "Green Hills of Africa" -- it's true -- they are the grey ghosts. Love to hunt them anywhere, especially during the rut. Incredible animal. Not particularly hardy once shot, but a worthy quarry and a great trophy. If that's what floats your boat, go to Namibia. | |||

Someday I would like to experience all hunts Africa has to offer, but always found kudu to be extra special. He is Mr. Africa to me with nyala as a close second. The price of knowledge is great but the price of ignorance is even greater. | |||

Kudu in the rut is truly awesome. A bull can hide in virtualy nothing, but during the rut, I've seen bull fights, and I've seen bulls exhibit a "swagger" when approaching cows or other bulls that is truly incredible to watch. It's definitely worth the price of admission. | |||

I have only been to a short africa hunt and shoot Impala and warthog. But the my realistic dream hunt is eland, kudu and bushbuck. My dream is buffalo. That said, I would enjoy hunting almost every game there is in Africa. The hunt itself is my prize | |||

For along time I have wanted a nice Gemsbuck. Well next May is my first and only trip to Africa and the Gemsbuck is at the top of my list. Next is a nice Kudu, then a Warthog. Also planned are Impala,Blesbuck, Blue Wildebeest and Springbuck. If I have the money and see one a nice Waterbuck. But mostly a Gemsbuck | |||

Buffalo called out to me for over 40 years, until I finally answered. I planned on the one trip, but now that seems silly... Elephant have a huge appeal, but I'm not sure how I would feel if I shot one. I know how my wife would feel, and that's not good... Warthog, kudu, and zebra were all on my hit list all my life, and none of them disappointed me... But after experiencing the hunt for one (Cape) eland, I would have to say that a Lord Derby is now officially my Dream Animal. | |||
