MacifejThere's another video of him somewhere doing the same thing with a gang of Hyenas.

Dr. Mike H.A fool and his lions are soon dinner
He's an idiot. Where is Darwin when you need him?
I saw this story a little while ago about some guy who liked to play with bears...
Regards,
Robert

H4350! It stays crunchy in milk longer!
I think that the guy with the bears (and his girlfriend) are now scat.
"Tame" or not, those lions (al a Mark Sullivan) were just letting the idiot chose how he wants to die.

JudgeG ... just counting time 'til I am again finding balm in Gilead chilled out somewhere in the Selous.
I don't know. It seems he is just seconds away from being killed even if it is only "accidental". Dead is dead whether they mean it or not.

I guess he forgot the lesson of St. Ignatius of Antioch?

Seriously, having been just a few feet from a pride of lions killing buffalo (unintentionally on my part, for sure), I'll be dad-gummed if I'm going to roll around on the ground with something that can casually drag down 3/4 of a ton of mbogo.

How could you shoot one of those cute, furry, playful things?
Me: .458 Lott TB Bearclaw on the shoulder...

Dropped on his head as a baby. MMP
All it takes is a "playful" bite in the neck (a la Siegfried and Roy) and thats all she wrote!
Peter.

For most species, I am all for helping grow populations in areas where they have been cut dangerously low and if that means rasing some from captivity to release, then so be it. But I still feel it is more ethical to hunt them in fair chase on their on turf than to cage them for life and treat them as pets.
A domesticated lion is like labotomized nuclear weapons engineer = the best that God gave him has been taken away in the name of making him "safer". Now he is just a shell.
Chet
That guy is just pushing his luck. Even a pack of domestic dogs can get carried away playing with a person or child and do some serious damage.
Looks some of the lions offered in RSA!

MARK H. YOUNGRoss,
Those lions are definitely pampered reserve lions. They look manewise much like the lions I saw in the captive breeding program in RSA.
The guy in the video obviously has a special relationship with those particular lions and another person might not be received so grandly by them. I also know that the guys familiarity with the lions is not completely safe and even by mistake a lion might seriously injure this guy. BUT how cool would it be to just hug one of those big old boys? I know. I'm nuts but having 3 big dogs and 3 cats living in the house with us has probably softened my brain. None of this would stop me from drilling a lion in the wild.

L. David KeithOn any given day one of those Lion's or a Hyena may accidentally scratch or bite him. The smell of blood could and most likely will incite the rest to dive in and he will be like the "Bear Man", scat as JudgeG said. A fool and his life are soon parted. I wish him the best but killing is what they do. Now every Puddin' Head in America will think they can frolic with the big Kittie's and Puppies. Welcome to the land of the mindless.

Every morning the Zebra wakes up knowing it must outrun the fastest Lion if it wants to stay alive. Every morning the Lion wakes up knowing it must outrun the slowest Zebra or it will starve. It makes no difference if you are a Zebra or a Lion; when the Sun comes up in Africa, you must wake up running......

Fooling around? He looked pretty serious to me, what with all the blood and the guy getting CPR and all...

Kind Host:
Having been there and done that with the babies, every once and a while, don't you get the impression that the cats are just tolerating you... especially when they give you a look that burns like a lazer?
Of course, fooling with "wild" animals is a risk/reward thing. I've had great joy in close communion with them, but isn't a big part of life having the hair on the back of your neck standing up?
I have a plain ol' house cat. He knows that I'm just human and he rules, btw.
