Barnes makes a 165 grain .308 solid. It is designed to minimize pelt damage. I have used their 75 grain solid in 6mm. It works fine on fox and coyotes. Too bad the fur isn't worth much.

Thanks for the info. I will follow it up. Seems that Barnes has four: 110, 125, 165 and 220 gr.

Allen, now that you've done it what's your reaction to hunting behind a high fence?

Brad, we didn't hunt behind high fences.

There is a widespread notion that S.African hunting is all high-fence, and nothing could be further from the truth. It's BIG country, and the better hunting companies own or have hunting rights to some incredibly large pieces of real estate. On such properties, the fences you run into are cattle fences, which is little different than the sort of situation you'd run into while hunting on a big ranch here in Oregon for mule deer and elk.

Brad, you really ought to consider going to African with me sometime!
